I'm starting to see new threads asking questions that have already been answered many times and to help you all save time I'd like to bring your attention to the search feature for this forum.

This forum has been around for a while and VFRs have been around as well so there's a good chance your problem has already happened to someone else and they already solved your problems.

To clear up some confusion the search feature I am referring to is the Search Forum feature. Link here: VFRworld - Search Forums

This is not to be confused with the Google Search button that you see on the top of the forums.

For example, when I needed some new tires to replace the Dunflops the bike originally came with I had no idea where to start on what tire to get. There are tons of tires out there and even if you reduce your search by tire brand they have several models. I ran into this site because I wanted to know what was good SPECIFICALLY for my bike, not just any bike.

So I went to the search page and entered "tire review" and found a real winner, the Conti Road Attacks. From the user comments it looked like exactly what I was looking for, a tire that can you don't have to replace every oil change but still sticks well for an occassional spirited ride. I'm not a Rossi Valentino wannabee and just wanted something in the medium range. To say I'm impressed with the Conti Road Attacks is putting it lightly.

Anyway the point is this forum has been around for a while and you'll be doing us a favor just using the search button.

Not only will it save you time in waiting for a response you'll make the forum more fun in that we don't have to dread yet another tire/oil thread or even
the infamous hitler vfr video ;) (If you don't know what the hitler VFR video is use the search button :))

Anyone here know if Conti Road Attacks are any good?

Just kidding Joey! I have re-"searched" tires and the Contis are right up there, in my opinion.

However, sometimes newer thoughts and ideas are not yet posted. Maybe some "Noob" already searched and found three year old posts and wondered if anyone has come up with something different since then. It's a good opportunity for people to show their smarts and endow ignorant newbies (like me) with their infinite wisdom. (which I certainly appreciate)

Personally, I'll search to my best ability, then come and ask you guys. I hope not to offend (or waste bandwidth)

Yo JoeyDude...thanks. It is good to spell this out as you did. (And when I think there might be something new on an old topic, I am sure to make the point in both the Thread title as well as the text of the new post...because sometimes there IS new info on what is the best generation of oil to put in the pair valve of my favorite tires.)

that is the perfect answer Whee, and all that we hope for. we love to see the questions, but occasionally those of us who hang around here a lot get salty if someone doesn't research at all.

I agree that searching first is a very good thing.

I like the fact that on vfrworld, if someone does ask something that's been discussed previously, nobody rudely jumps on them about searching before asking.

I've seen that on too many forums. Lots of nice folks here!!

On the new ideas on old posts.
Anytime someone posts something new in an old thread, it comes back to life in the 'most receent post' box. That way, a question can be asked in an existing thread and get some current answers.

All good comments and a good thread. I know if I can help, I will, without hesitation.

Incidently, another good idea for "Noobs" is to also research the board when you come up with an "astounding" new idea or fact, BEFORE you post it. I've found it sort of amusing on other boards when someone doesn't do this. It's pretty embarrassing for the "Noob" in question when he finds out his idea/thought/discovery has been thoroughly discussed over a year ago.

In the end all of you who have been here a long time, will probably have to chalk it up to the "new" excitement of owning a VFR. I know I'm wired (look at my username!) We'll need a few breaks along the way until we're as jaded as you guys are:wink:

Good point Drewl...I do like that. And then it is all there on one thread so that the full context is retained and minimizes looking up multiple threads. Very good for the "now" and for the future when someone looks up that thread.
We are the best Forum! (Ouch! I just hurt my shoulder trying to pat myself on the back for spending my time here!)

Nobody listens to that though.... :frown:

I wish that people would search, but mostly they do not. Maybe we need a more visible "search" button? Put flashing neon lights and two :stripper::stripper: around it.
