I have new bike fever - looking at a used 2007 VFR with 4,400 miles. My 5th Gen VFR is still my baby, but I am not a wrencher and the dealers do horrible work and are overpriced. I have a little over 30k on my 2000 VFR and the only bike that can replace it is another VFR. I am having some issues with my bike and do not want to end up with my bike being the shop during most of the summer. Presently, my bike is overheating and I am not sure if it is leaking or if the themostat is stuck (dealer are too busy to check the bike - had the bike at the dealer four days last week and they were too busy to do anything). Also, my bike revs ridiculousy high when I start it sometimes (no dealer can figure out why). and finally I want to get the valves checked and one shop told me it would be a little over $900.00 and another shop gave me a quote of $450.00. Any thoughts on how much it is gonna cost to do the valves on a 6th Gen VFR? How good is the stock 6th Gen suspension and brakes? Anyone have HIDs on a 6th gen? The 07 VFR I am looking at is at the dealer and he wants $7999. I think I can get him down to $7500. Not sure what I can get for my VFR on a trade, but figure the deal will be around $4500 cash with my bike as a trade-in - what do you guys think?

I had the valves done on my 6th gen. in Crossville, Tn at the Honda Shop for $259. However it took a lot of looking to find that price. Before that I had gotten 600 and 450 quotes. Some of the smaller dealerships will give better deals, and I feel that I get better service.

I haven't done my valves yet, but I've heard that on average, it runs $100 - $200 more than the 5th Gen. Considering how infrequently it needs to be done, it is not a big deal.

I too came off a 5th Gen ('99) when I bought my '07. What I can tell you is that the '07 has sharper handling and better suspension. The motor is equivalent with the extra kick that the VTEC gives you. I personally like the VTEC. It gives the bike character, much like the gear driven cams of the 5th Gen.

I'm glad to hear that you're replacing your bike with another VFR.

Thanx for the reply - Exactly what i needed to know in terms of suspension and handling difference. I looked at other bikes and liked a few, but nothing has beated out the VFR as a complete all around package for me. I like the new CBR RR 600cc/1000cc and I like the new Busa, and the new GSXR. The Kawi ZX10 is still a possibility since there are quite a few 07 leftovers up here at the dealers. I am in a club with other sportbike riders who ride GSXRs and ZX10s. I can keep up because I can corner better than most of the guys because they sweep turns. On straights I get my but kicked with the 5th Gen VFR. Thanx again fellas.
