what's a good source for new rotors for my 1986 vfr700f? they're around 250$ each at www.mrcycles.com! What are my other options? I've seen the wavy galfer ones on ebay, do they work alright? i don't see any for 1986 anyway...

0o0o0o just checked out the dennis kirk catalog, are these ebc prolite brakes good? part #s 194766, 194768, and 195269... the rear rotor doesnt have as many holes drilled in it, will that effect the heat dissipation much?

I have a nice set of 280mm F2 rotors that should fit your VFR. Shipped in the US for $100.00

the holes in the rotor shouldn't affect the heat dissipation. this is kind of misunderstood subject with some people i talk to. although the drilled holes will help somewhat cool the rotor that is not the primary purpose. when you grab the brakes and the pads hit the rotor they get hot quick which actually creates a microscopic layer of gas between the pad and the rotor. the holes and/ or slots cut in the rotor dissapate that gas to allow complete contact of pads and rotors, and with bikes i would imagine since pads are somewhat small when your on the brakes the heat builds up fast causing that layer to form. i suspect this is why every rotor i have seen is drilled or slotted on motorcycles.
As far as sources go , i haven't used them but you could try cyclebrakes.com

try parts-unlimited, they should have an 86-87 rotor for a lot cheaper....you could also look into a cbr F2 rotor, i hear they are the same. and you can find them on ebay pretty cheap also. but if you are looking for more stopping power try EBC prolite rotors and EBC pads or GALFER pads.

Yes, the CBR F1 and F2 front brake rotors are the same as 86-87 VFR750/700F. And the VFR rear rotor is the same as CBR1100XX Blackbird rear rotor.

I got my EBC rear rotor from Dennis Kirk if I remember correctly. They had pretty much the best price. Check eBay too.

I just bought rotors for my 2002 VFR800 ABS. Got them for $178 ea from Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse (MAW); they are massive. The rotors were considerable cheaper than ebay, Dennis Kirk, Parts Unlimited, Bike Bandit and everywhere else that I looked (about 15 places). Also, they have a lot larger selection than most places. The ones I purchased were not listed on the site but I called, connected quickly to a real person (very friendly), found what I needed and had them shipped. Only charged $10 extra to cut shipping time in half. (3-5 from 5-7). Lastly, they have a very quick and easy to use order status checker.

I've used stock rotors (like everyone else), EBC's and Braking. I can't really say I've ever seen any difference in the rotors, but brake pads are a whole diffrent story though.

The reason that motorcycles have cross drilled rotors for the most part is because vented rotors are wayyy too heavy for motorcycle use. I can't remember the last time I saw NON vented rotors on the front axle of a car. Rear, yes, but not the fronts, because they do 75-85% of the braking duty, as is the case on motorcycles.

It IS a heat dissipation thing, in addition to allowing the gas to escape.

so it looks like i'll probably go EBC rotors through Dennis Kirk, as for brake pads... i got antsy a while back and bought all the pads off Ebay through pyramid parts... they have copper in their pads which sucked me in. Has anyone heard of them? I don't see them on Ebay anymore... hmm. Do i have to worry about the pads and rotors not being compatible? (If you can't tell im quite paranoid.) Are the pads crap?!?

Never heard of Pyramid pads, but hey you already have them I'd give them a shot. Keep a close eye on the wear.

I just got a boatload of parts for my 98 vfr at this place. Overall prices seem to be some of, if not the lowest OEM parts around. Anyone have lower prices on OEM parts? let me know.

    My rotors are $196 here...btw
