The Rumour is the Australian Holden Ute will be exported to the USA rebadged as a Pontiac as an alternative to the traditional Pick Up, the engine and drive trains are from the US 6.0 Litre Corvette with fuel saving 4 to 8 cylinder modes anyone heard this do you think it may sell ?

I've heard the rumor as well; it's been in many US auto mags. I prefer a tradition body-on-frame truck so I would not buy one. I do see how this could/would appeal to some people. The El Camino was moderately popular so there would be at least some takers. The main problem will be the MPG. I'm thinking gas guzzlers are going to be tougher & tougher to sell in the coming years. Full size trucks, long the most popular vehicles in the US, are suffering declining sales almost every month. The Ute might squeek out 20mpg hi-way & that's going to be a tough sale when it only seats 2 people.

I am envious, you Aussie's have one of the best vehicle markets on the planet.

    KC-10 FE out...

A new age El Camino, I like it completely impractical for me personally @ this point in life. But cool not the less; the internet rumor mill is speculating a Chevy El Camino badged version as well for the states.

that 40,000 dollar chevy auto/pickup thingy didn't go over very well a few years ago. This thing looks exactly like the little GM thingy of the 80s. There'll be a bunch of hype without much sales.

Love the El Camino, saw a restored one last weekend there were quite a few imported in the early '70's.

Over here these kind of Ute's have long been considered a practical poor mans sports car, light weight, big engines with good handling at a cheapish price.

For the US was wondering about its target audience. 5 years ago was showing US AT&T International collegues from Atlanta around, we discussed a HSV Ute of the time parked in front of the Hotel which the guy thought it pointless and would rather keep his Blazer but the single lady loved it and said she'd quickly trade her new F150 in on one as it looked easier to park in her garage and run to the shops in.
