I notice that I need to give it some gas if I want to start it on the first try. This can’t be right. I have a 2003 VFR that I bought with only 850 miles. I turn up the idle and it helped with it stalling on the road. What else could it be?

Not much history or info, huh? Sounds like it's not running on all four cylinders. Maybe a fouled spark plug? Bring your 17 digit VIN to a Hon dealer and ask them to check records. There is a fairly recent recall on this model (not that it will solve your running problem). Sometimes the letters are slower to get to second owners. Enough bodywork gets stripped during the recall to make investigating secondary issues less work. I suggest you start there.

Have u tried the Pair Valve blocking mod? That helped a lot on starting the bike. I did it yesterday, my bike usually started on the second or third try after sitting for more than 1 day. It sat for 2 days, did the mod and started on the first try. There's more info here.

Thanks, the mod looks easy, somthing I think I can do. Do you know if it will interfere when I take through emissions?

Also, would you suggest using Sea Foam in the tank to clean the FI?

The mod is a joke to do (remove the 2 screws holding the tank, raise it up and hold it in place and look for a thin rubber hose in top of the intake assembly, get a zip tie and shut that sucker off). As far as the emissions goes, Here in TX they don't do emission test on bikes, they just check the light, horn, and brakes. I don't think is going to a big difference.
As far as Sea Foam, I really don't know what that is, but most of the guys here use Techron Fuel System Cleaner on every oil change.

Try the mod and let's see how it goes!

Is this info. pertinent to the 5th gen as well? I have a funky valve thing on the top of my air box as well... I'll block it off asap if this will help with gas mileage and starting... she also starts on the 2nd or third try... or if I hold in the starter button it will then fire up...

I have that exact problem as well on my '99, never really thought much of it though. When you say 'PAIR' valve, do you mean the metalic actuator that sits ontop of the airbox?

    Start on first try

Dealer got it fixed, it was a leaking fuel regulator. They replaced it and now it starts on the first try. But, it now runs lean and stalls out on the downshift:mad:

    Back to the dealer........
