All things in moderation, coffee, junk food, sun exposure, alcohol, weed, sex? :)
I also enjoy and look forward to the reward of a cold beer after a long ride or mowing the lawn. Its a nice way to just to sit back and relax. Some people I know would choose to have a toke to relax. That's their choice and I really don't have any issues with that. The key is moderation and FOR SURE no more riding after partaking of either. My attitude is to enjoy life's experiences, enjoy your friends and family. Life is truly too short so enjoy it however you would like, just don't hurt yourself or anyone else. I don't really feel it is that big of a deal as long as you are responsible. Just my outlook.

Most importantly a joint and a good cigar is redundant at best and potenially quite confusing!

I feel the need for a disclaimer here. I want all to know none of these riders is me. they left without me. Think they may qualify for the HOV lane?

Nicotine is probably the most additive "drug" out there but because the big tobacco companies rule most govt officials ($$$$$) it is not illegal. Ever see a person who hasn't had a cig for a while? They look like a junkie craving for their next fix!

While were on the subject don't get me started with caffeine either!

Trying to get people to stop someone who takes a hit now and then will be impossible. I know people who are occasional "tokers" and they are generally great people. To complete cut yourself off from a person just because of a casual joint is ridiculous... If you cut yourself off from every person who does something the least bit illegal you're gonna be one lonely person.

Well, if I'm a bad person for saying drugs are bad & that I will not associate with those that do drugs, well then by all means, I am a bad person.

My, what a screwed up sense of values society has anymore...

Well I would avoid doing either and riding; if you do you better be in control and a very solid rider who is Virtually automatic with your riding skills. If you are asking a non riding question then I would say try both and see what you like; I personally have no answer / opinion on the question. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

 Damn, whats this, 3 times I've agreed with you

I agree that staying away from people that do illegal drugs makes me a bad person, So be it. At least I'll remember who they are the next day, while they won't remember me

p.s.
Hey ohsix9,
I may be rare, but I don't even take aspirin, & from surgeries I have never taken hom PK, or p/u subsciptions for it. Mind stops pain & heals better than drugs, that & I'm a tough son of a asshole

thats what our generation said about weed maybe it is the least of all the evils, but to many young kids start with that and move to meth. i v seen to many kids screwed up with that stuff just doing it once can screw them up for life far worse stuff out there than our generation had to choice from.

I believe that this may not be the best example. I have spoke to recovering alcoholics about the possibility of them enjoying what is considered non-alcohol beer. (.05%) Their answer is alcohol is alcohol no matter how much and from where. Those I spoke with will not take the chance of slipping back to the poor quality of life they lead while dependent on their vice. As far as alcoholics go there is no such thing as "gateway" products. I wonder if they have to deal with day to day products that have alcohol in them as well. The gripe water you feed your infants when teething and colicky contains about 5% alcohol as an example.

One might say that alcohol is a gateway for the use of pot, thence to harder drugs. Whether you agree with me or not makes not one bit of difference to me ro anyone else I suppose. What counts is it is being debated. Keep it up.

And life is the gateway to irritation and annoyance caused by interacting with other humans, who steadfastly refuse to see things from our clearly superior point of view, mine in particular.

Altering one's perceptions through the use of any drug has it's dangers, as well as NOT altering one's perceptions on occasion. Vigorous extended physical exercise always helps me to lighten up, but it is a lot more work than a cigar and a beer!

Thing is, alchohol is perfectly legal. If one day it's made illegal, I will stop using it the next minute. Oh wait, they already tried that once & we know how that worked out.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prohibition_in_the_United_States

Alcohol IS NOT a mind altering substance, it is a depressant. While this isn't necessarily a good thing, in moderation, alcohol has no lasting effects. Sure, it lowers your inhibitions & such but as long as you don't overdue it, there is nothing wrong with alcohol. It is also well documented that alcohol in moderation has health benefits.

Kc

Kc,

I really hate to debate morality since each is a personal perspective. No one wins these discussions. But since you live in New Jersey and I live in Bethlehem, PA how about we get together some time.

Maybe we have something to eat, smoke a joint (oops) beer and discus this and other topics. LOLLOLLOL.

All kidding aside, I escaped Nazi Jersey 13 years ago and don't miss it one bit.

See we have something in common,

Joe

I'll have you know, NJ is Communist, not Nazi.

Being married to a German girl, I find the term Nazi to be offensive.

Well, not really, but it does add fuel to the fire for this thread doesn't it?
