I am bumping this thread because I don't think we have covered beer adequately.

Some recent observations. As has been stated many times before, light beer is like sex in a canoe. If you don't know the punch line google it. Another truism about light beer is that it will help keep you regular as my grandpa used to say.

Cheap beer that I like, Busch Light (reminds me of home and I can't get it out here) Beast Light (buy it by the 30 pack and have fun). I feel light beer is often unrated by beer drinkers. It is not merely a watered down version of the regular. It is a different process. And, let's face it, on a hot day when you are going to drink several, light is a good choice. Another bonus to light beer is that you can replace the 8 glasses of water a day requirement with light beer and you are damn near a health nut!

on another note: after seeing all the recommendations for St Pauli Girl, I bought a 12 pk thinking I missed something last time I tried it. Nope, I didn't. I don't like it. I pretty much am not a huge fan of anything that gets exposed to light from clear or green bottles. I can drink them and will if they are free, but if I have a good ale on tap to choose from, I'll go that direction.

I'm lucky in that there are 2 local microbreweries close to me. One less than a mile with restaurant/bar, and another about 8 miles with a tasting room but not a "bar". Almost any bar here has at least 4 beers on tap and only 2 of those will be "cheap" standards.

Well, I am back in the United States after a Looooooonnnngggg deployment, and I have to tell ya, Shiner Bock has never tasted better!!!

I have to add it to the list that started this thread. Alot of my medical schooling occured in Texas years ago, and I fell deeply in love with the stuff during those long nights of studying. My wife had it waiting for me when I got home yesterday. It was heavenly. Highly recommended!!

Wow !!! My wife says" Haven't you had one already?" Sucks when you wife is a non drinker sometimes. :ballchain: Hell I can only have two a day anyways. Tried to sell the idea of saving up for the weekend to the doc but he shot me down on that one.

Australian Bushman's Lager was mentioned here somewhere I think. Spotted that the other day at the liquor store so bought a 6 pak. Quite smooth and nice tasting. A bit of a sweet flavour. Enjoyed it but it won't make my list of favs.

I pretty much only like St. Pauli Dark when accompanied w/ a rare to medium rare slab of beef in the late fall; it is a difficult beverage for me to consume in excess. If you are able to consume it in excess you won't want to stray very far from a source of cool refreshing agua the following morning.

There are three types of St. Pauli Girl Brews, kinda like Duff, Duff Lite, and the one we all recommended.

If you did not get the "Special Dark" look for the busty blonde on the bottle in the "Short Bus Section".

On the light getting into the bottle... don't buy beer in the day, take the light out of your 'fridge....it saves energy so you can "Go Green" which is another reason to enjoy the Special Dark's Green bottle.

If you aren't like'in the other five girls, just peel the labels off and put them in the "Beer Hunter" cooler full of naked bottles at your next party. Lot less complaining about the beer... funny HinnyCan never seems to smell or taste as good if you don't see the label.

BZ...sounds like you're from my neck of the woods. Grew up in Pgh, uncle from NorthEast, pa( a town near Erie).
My grandfather was fond of warm Genesee Cream Ale. Kept it on the garage floor year round.

It was a hot day in the North End, Winnipeg Manitoba.

Helga hung the wash out to dry, put a roast in the oven, then went to pick up some dry cleaning. Gootness, it's hot she mused to herself as she walked down Main street.

She passed by a pub and thought, “Vy nodt?” So she walked in and took a seat at the bar.

The bartender came up and asked her what she would like to drink. ”Ya know.” Elga said “It is so hot I tink I'll have myself zee cold beer.”

    Bartender asked, “Anheuser Busch?”

Helga blushed and replied “Vell fine, tanks, und how's yer pecker?”

Very good, my canuck friend!! Best joke I've heard in quite awhile. Now if I could just get a dozen crullers from Tim Hortons, life would be perfect this AM. In Kandahar, Afghanistan there is actually a Tim hortons on the main base. I am addicted. Future vaction plans revolve around this truth.

I am aware of that TH in Kandahar. Yep, we like our Timmies. You know, last time I checked there were over 400 Tim Horton's franchisees in the US. Here we go again. Canada trying to invade the United States. We did that a couple times you know. War of 1812, Hockey. Hell even basketball has its origins in Canada and there is no doubt, we simply do not measure up to you guys there. I live not that far from Bellingham Washington. I would dearly love to open a TH franchise there.

BTW. Is that a cup of Timmies in your avatar?

Here's where I'll probably be this evening. They sit at the end of Higuera in SLO. They keep 21 beers on tap and none of them from AB. Right now, they even have Foghorn Barleywine on tap for $4. They also keep beers from all over CA on tap. It's not a huge place so on game nights it can get quite full. If you ever make it to San Luis Obispo, I recommend it because it is the only place to get this many local (to central coast and CA) beers in one place. Also, the hot wings are tasty, but order medium unless you are a braver man than me! (the medium ones bring the sweat to my forehead and give me the hiccups after 2-3 bites.)

Here, check out their beer list and see what you like: http://www.originalspikes.com/beers.html

No you are not. I do also but must admit, I spend more time cjecking out the real subject matter though.

Word from the wise. Sunlight deteriorates beer very fast so I would get that somewhere cool and dark. That is why they make most beer bottles coloured.

Worked in a brewery for 5 years long ago. Least I think I did. It was a kinda blurry time in my life.

I like beer, mainly pilsner other than any Canadian or American beers. So, if I go to a liquor store, I choose one from European brands. 500ml size is perfect for me, and I choose from something on sale on that day. I have Radeberger from Germany right now, and the last one were Barvaria from Netherland. I bought them 24 cans in a box at $1.99each. Being a Japanese I also like Japanese beer, especially when I am back in Japan, however, it is very rare for me to buy Japanese beer here. I think because I never see them in a box of 24 cans. It is very difficult purchase and carry unless they are in boxes. At a Chinese restaurant I drink Qingdao beer and in Indian restaurant I drink Kingfisher. I just hate big brand North American beers, though some of micro-brewery beers are OK. I buy Okanagan beer sometimes.

I came from Sapporo and their original factory was only 2 km away. After I finished a university and when I did not have a steady job, I used to drive a two~four ton truck and I worked as a truck driver to deliver Sapporo beer. Beer tastes the best when it is just brewed and not transported, so I used to be at the best place for one year.

I sometime drive car after I had a can of beer, however, I never ride bikes. Even if I have beer at 3:30pm. after work, I would not ride till the following day. When I bought my previous bike, Yamaha, FJ1200, in 1994 I wanted to join a motorcycle club and I attended a meeting of the Greater Vancouver Motorcycle Club. I did not join the club since they all drunk beer after very short talking. I thought it was basically a drinking club.
