I WILL NOT ask what brand do you like.
    I don't care!:bored:
But, being the owner of a gen 6, I'm curious about oil WEIGHT.
    The manual says 10-30.
Doing an oil search here people say 10-40 (or 15-50, or 20-50), but they may be talking about useage in older gear driven cam models.
What is your insight as to what weight oil you use in your gen 6?

Your in the Pittsburg area - so the 10 - 40 should the way to go. I'm over in Ohio, thats what I run. The Honda manual is good on this too. In the hotter climates, I'd bump it to 20 - 50.

Page 105 of the owners manual from under the seat of my 2006 VFR states 10w40. I went online and read the online version of the service manual you get by belonging to the HRCA and it states 10W30. Since I have had other problems with the online service manual ( I think it is not well edited) I trust the published bound owners manual that came with my bike. I let the dealer perform the 600 mile oil change as a part of the service and they too used 10W40. I quickly changed to synthetic oil and use full sysn 10W40.

I use 10w40 full syn in my Gen6

I live in CA and I use 20w50 but I think the frequency of change probably makes more difference than anything, but hell, who knows? I wouldn't try it, but I bet the VFR would run pretty well with vegetable oil in there! plus, it would smell like french fries when you were tearing up the backroads...Bonus!

    Page 105 2007 owner's manual:
    Oil Recommendation, viscosity SAE 10W-30.

So, y'all are using 10-40 w/no ill effects, I gather?
Makes more sense to me, but I'm not a honda engineer (by a long shot)!

Typically in the Honda owners manual there is a chart of oil weights to use vs the general ambient temperature (weather) you run the bike. Mostly I go by that.

Since 5th and 6th gens tend to run a bit hot blooded - 10W - 30 is probably not a good idea for summer running.

I was in my dealer today picking up a new oil filter. I was told that Honda has changed the oil filter and the orginal OEN part number was now obsolete. Honda sfilter is more universal now. After learning this I decided to ask why the change on Honda's part to 10W30 for the interceptor. He said that it was simple. Honda has a new full synthetic line and are offering the 10W30 full syn. Again trying to make a universal oil /filter combo.

For what its worth I thought I would share.

I bought a shop manual for the bike from helm. they are the "official" Honda printer... The manual is basically a 2005 manual with update pages/stickers for my 2007. One of the pages changed the recommend oil from the 10w-40 to 10w-30... but if you look at the temp. charts they look the same. So... I think you are fine using either, just look out for the energy conservation label on the oil.... that will hose your clutch friction.

This thread should really be under the bastard oil review forum.
