    KC,

Stopping a car for speeding is as you down there call it reasonable cause. Why are they stopping the car? You think that likely most impaired drivers probably speed. Stopping the speeding car gives the cop a chance to look for that impaired driver who may be a long time alcohol abuser, who drives fine, but his reaction time is severely reduced by booze. Broken headlight same thing. It also gives him an opportunity to smell marijuana, see stolen property. watch for tell tale signs of someone with a lot of guilt. Why is he this way. Maybe a hockey bag full of crack, or stuff stolen from your home. Hey this guy is covered in blood. Why is that. Damned he just shanked someone down at Bart's Pool Hall.

No one is perfect (except me so my kids say) but if we identify the bad ones and see what we can do to improve their way of doing business, then and only then do we have the right to complain.

I think I said a while back I was going to unsubscribe from this thread. See what you guys have done to me?

    Ride safe. Ya'all eh!:canada:

So I missed the century mark by one. Story of my life.

Hey everyone. This site is grand. Brings out a lot of discussion, albeit some a little colourful, heated and out of line in some cases. But if we all bring something out of these discussions we are better and if everyone did the same, then what would we complain about then.

The Vancouver Canucks got wiped out of their playoff chances. Go fugure

I got an idea to keep this going. :blah: There's this theory I have behind b.s. tickets. It's easy for the LEO to do them and it shows the boss that they're not napping on the clock. I saw this hilarious term "Po-po period" at urbandictionary.com: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Po-Po+Period

Do you think that theory holds any water? Do their bosses rank the staff according to how many tickets they hand out? "There goes my #1 boy, over 300 tickets this month, a record!"

I have a idea also it goes like this- instead of assuming what they do sign your release form and ride with the police several times and report back what they actual do. I have the simplest job in the world and people have no idea what is involved in it day in and day out.

I too have seen many State Troopers "responding" with lights and sirens to BS traffic accidents that are no hazard, the FD has already left, yet they come flying through traffic like a bank is being robbed. And a deputy not look left before turning left onto a busy road "responding" to something that he never made it to cause he was missing the front left wheel of his cruiser when it got taken out by an innocent motorist. And a good friend whose life was wasted cause he always wanted to be first, he always wanted to help everyone, but one night he went too fast in the rain and crashed his cruiser going to another serious accident. His fiancee was in the fire truck behind him and watched him be extricated with CPR in progress. To have him back...

I don't hate cops, I have several friends who are, I've lived with them, and I even banged one...but cops seem to be just as wreckless as some of us and there is no one to "police" them til they f*** up. I understand there are times that can justify the risk of pushing the limits, but many times that priviledge is abused.

You beat me to it Randy.

Some of you have no idea how many drugs are taken off the road, how many drunks are arrested, how many kidnappers, killers, you name it are taken off the streets because of an every day traffic stop.

As Faith7 said, go to your local PD/Sheriff's Office/Highway patrol, sign the waiver and go for a ride along for a few hours. Come back and see if you're opinion is the same. Till you do that, don't pretend to know what our job is all about. This is of course only directed at a few posters here, although I welcome everyone to do the same.

i didn't really wanna comment seems like a heated topic.I would guess it can be frustrating being a cop at times with our revolving door justice system. bust a grow op or meth lab just to see the bastards back in business less than 6 month later, if that. still have to wonder why they set up a speed trap @ the bottom of a hill or set up a second trap a block past the first are they really catching dangerous drivers or just catching the average joe on his way to or from work.

This just goes to show that two scooter hooters on VFRs can disagree but still ride together. Hey Chomp, soon eh! Maybe we can get some of those other guys from our area out, if they really do ride VFRs

I'm not a pussy. I ride in rain, wind, cold heat and have been caught in the snow. I'll suffer the consequences of getting an opportunity to speak with my friends when they notice me a little fast.

Went out today for a quick jaunt. May take a ride into Vancouver tomorrow to deliver my daughter's taxes to her. Then back to take care of my son's truck at the dealership. Think they are taking or trying to take us for a ride.

Damit I wish the kids would start dealing with their own problems. :juggle: Sometimes it sucks being a dad.:frusty:

Hey, you know, I can't help but be intrigued by that. I might just do that sometime pretty soon. If I do that I'll post a thread offering my impressions on the ride-along and title it, "Know thy enemy". Ha ha ha, just messing around!

Seriously, I'll check around my PD and see if they have a ride-along program and set it up for a weekend. That'd be one cool way to spend a weekend!

I know for a fact Timothy McVeigh, the Oklahoma Bomber, was discovered when a LEO found he had a broken taillight on his car. I'm sure many others have been discovered in a routine traffic stop.

I'm definitely NOT against traffic stops for broken lights, arm poking out the trunk, and beer bottles stacked up the back window. My only issue is I don't feel like we should all be targeted just for going a little fast. The cops speed and as long as man is driving cars we'll all speed. In the distant future I'm sure we'll see jet pack speeding tickets exceeding Warp 1
