lucky for me my friend bought a ninja 250 this summer, while he was going to haul his bike to the DMV I decided I might as well go along and take the test too. I had to take the written test 2 times, (missed 5 the first, and 0 the 2nd) and the driving test I only missed points because i slipped off the clutch on the stop test...

Really easy to do, my friend who had never rode a motorcycle except for the 2 days before the test passed... Much better to take the time to do that then get in trouble for not having a license...

No endorsement? Wow. There is the obvious problem with the police if you are pulled over for speeding. Then there is the problem if you are involved in an accident that's not your fault - except it is your fault because you are unlicensed. Then there is the ugly insurance problem . . . .

Ok, I can understand not getting the "M", but no insurance??? WTF?
Yea, insurance is a PITA. I've been paying out for 16 years and only used it for the first time this year, for a minor fender bender (wife was driving :) ). But I'm lucky.

I've seen people with no insurance get into accidents where they end up liable for thousands and thousands. One idiot is in debt for appox 750,000.00. He sent 5 people to the hospital, 3 life flighted. He had no insurance.

It's because of morons like this our insurance costs so much. Half of my insurance payment is for uninsured motorists. So I'm paying my insurance, and theirs.

I probably write more no proof of insurance tickets than anything. I don't feel bad about them at all, if they have insurance all they have to do is prove it and it's dropped. If they don't have insurance, they get what's comming to them.

That sucks about the roadblocks and impounds though. Guess it's not as much of a concern here. I've only impounded two bikes. Both times were because they were going to jail and no one was there to take custody of the bike.

Just a heads up everyone. All states and provinces are a little different but basically very similar.

If you don't have the complete valid class of driver's license for the vehicle you are driving, then someone might argue that you do not have a license at all for they driving you are doing at the time. Most insurance policies require that the operator of the vehicle being insured possess a valid driver's license. So if you don't have the proper license, or have a learners which permits you to drive a certain speed on a certain type of road, and your are operating contrary to this condition, and you become involved in a collision even if it is not your fault, I can see an insurance company not paying out because you were in breach of your contract. Or if it your fault, they may pay out the victim and then turn around and go after you.

Now before everyone jumps all over me:yield: , I am not saying this is right or wrong, I agree or disagree. I just want everyone here to look this over in their own circumstances and make sure you are either covered properly, or are prepared to take the financial risk.:blah: :blah: :blah:

I would be REAL hesitant about riding without a license. Not only is it very squidly, but you don't have to be "riding" to be stopped.

Just yesterday I was parked in front of a restaurant finishing up lunch with one of my buds and a trooper walks in after checking out our bikes and says "Who's bike with the bags?" I tell him its mine and he goes on to tell me that I need to put my license back to horizontal (just did the fender elimination with vertical tag between the pipes) and I need an inspection (just got the bike from FBI agent who never got it done so I really wasn't too concerned about it). Then he asks if I even have a motorcycle endorsement. I was apalled. In the middle of a restaurant he asks this while my shiny sport tourer WITH bags is sitting outside. I replied of course, I've been riding for years. Then he said that most guys "on motors" don't. He never asked for proof and I guess it was just a warning about the other stuff, but I wasn't happy to be "harassed" while eating lunch.

I'm going to use this an an oppurtunity to sell the MSF courses, of which I'm totally biased to.

Take one, I GUARANTEE you'll learn something. Who knows, you might learn something that could save your life.

YEA!!! I got my course reset for a week from tomorrow. The lady was totally cool and even apologized for the letter not stating that I NEEDED PROOF. She didn't even charge me the 50% fee of $50. Yea, I know I should've had it... Stupid screw up.

As for not having an "M" and getting into an accident when you are not at fault... That all depends on the trooper who writes the report. That happened to me 2 years ago and is also what's pushing me to get my endorsement now. A kid pulled in front of me and that was it. I was found NOT at fault even though I didn't have an "M" endorsement. In fact the money they gave me for the accident paid off my bike, bought me a truck, and the '86 VFR I drive now.

I'm not endorsing driving without a license, and I don't enjoy riding as much as I would if I had it. I HATE always looking for the next cop, and wondering when the next a$$hole is gonna pull out and cut me off. ONE more week and I won't have that problem.

I have to agree with pontiacformula, in Tennessee, it depends a lot on the trooper and where you are and what you are doing. Big business with the roadblocks where I have had troopers remark "you have a license " because they are so accustomed to riders not having an endorsement.

I'm going to say this politely as I can.

Instead of debating whether or not the officer will cite you for no "M" endorsement, why don't you guys get off your butts & get the endorsement?

I took our answer to your course when I bought my first bike 1 1/2 years ago. Cost me $650.00. Best 650 I have spent in a very long time.

    MSF Next week!

I picked up my bike in November of 2007. Worked on it during the winter. Just insured and registered it. And my MSF class starts on Mon. so as long as I can get the last couple of things worked out on my bike...I will soon be all set and legal! I can't wait.

When I first started riding, i purchased a ninja 500 from my aunts brother back in 1999. I went and took the written test at the Colorado DMV. I had an "M" endorcement with restrictions. I had to ride with someone over 18 that had a full endorcement. Which I never did....

Sold the bike about a year later after I moved back to Houston. Now about 7 months ago I picked up my VF500, First thing I did was register for the MSF course...It was the best thing I have done, I definitly feel that it made me into a better rider....

When I took the MSF cert to the Texas DNV the lady asked how long ago I took the written test. I told her That it was a while ago, but could not remember the exact time. So, she told me to be safe, and gave me my full license..Now I have the bike registered and insured, and am fully legal. It is nice to ride and not worry about getting pulled over....
