    LG buddy ole pal!

They have had this in SD county (and OC) for years....they call it "Fastpass" and anybody can get one and use the carpool lane for $$$ each time they use it. The rates very and depend on the day/time and traffic conditions. I personally dislike it and I think that it defeats the purpose of the "carPOOL" lane which is meant to encourage people to ride together...or ride a bike! It just means that "Mr Rich" gets to plow down it with his monster SUV getting 10 to the gallon doing 90! They are probably just talking about expanding what they already do in parts of CA.

What do you think of it LG?

Oh, Master! I am saddened to hear of this most unfortunate timing. Perhaps it was punishment for eating that Holy Cow sandwich last night. But you have always taught me to see the universe as a whole and to count one's blessings. In other words, please to remember the many times you have done wicked deeds on street with no man of police to see you and to mete out punishments on your person. You, in the long run, have done very well. Even the Master must sometimes be the lesson, or, how do you Americans say...the whipping boy. Taking punishment like a man you are. Good Karma! Keep this lesson always in your conciousness and benefit you will. Thank you for honesty, Master!

I really recommend going to court and fighting it. There's this site www.beatmyspeedingticket.com that provides all the documents you need and all the instructions you need for court.

I have used this service twice and gotten out of speeding tickets. It's not only cheap but a lot of fun seeing the cops all pissed off knowing that I got away with it!

In the future you might want to buy some blue line stickers at http://thegeorgiaspeedingticketkiller.com/thin_blue_line.php and put a sticker on the back of your helmet. That can REALLY help prevent getting a ticket in the 1st place.

From my experience I can vouch that this blue line sticker works great. One time I blew by a cop going WAY over the limit and the cop started following me. But then he left me alone obviously from the special blue line sticker on my helmet.

[He thread to ramp me from behind if I am not stop imediatly.]
Hopefully, that was just an idle threat.

The majority of the time, the officer has to receive authorization from his field commander to do that type of maneuver. Plus, for just speeding and not obviously endangering lives - and no known felony charges, the officer could be charged with attempted manslaughter or worse.

Sounds like he was a dick!!

Mr. derstuka, you obviously derive some sort of perverse pleasure from getting me wound up, yet I fall for it every time...

There are three or four bridges in the San Francisco bay area used daily by a whole lotta people who commute (I exclude the Golden Gate bridge, as it is privately owned/managed). Anyway, the toll was $1 for a long time. Then it was decided that some "earthquake retrofitting" was necessary, so the tolls would be raised to $2, until such time that enough money was raised to pay for the retrofitting. Then the toll would revert back to $1. The toll is now $4, and I believe it is being raised to $5 soon...

Car pool lanes were contrived to get people to be less wasteful, and ease traffic congestion as well. It is a good idea, but is mostly a failure. Rather than say, "F**k it, bad idea, let's just make it a regular lane", some politician(s) somewhere have found yet another way to extract more money from our pockets. Once again, something the taxpayer has paid for is being used as a revenue stream.

The last speeding ticket I got was on the VFR about four weeks ago. There was a slow driver in the left lane, keeping perfect pace with a truck in the right lane, front bumper even with back bumper, no way to pass. Mr. Jackass had been in this position for about three miles, and there was a stack of about ten cars behind him (I was third). As we approached a corner, jackass slowed down a bit, and opened up about a two car gap. I took the opportunity to go down a few gears and pass in the right lane. Out of the corner of my eye, as I was just getting ready to pull back over into the left lane, I saw the highway patrol parked on the right shoulder that was not visible to me around the truck...

Although the officer was a good guy and wrote me up for a lot less than what I was radared at, I did point out, in a very diplomatic fashion, that the whole problem was Mr. Jackass obstructing traffic, and that I was merely being proactive in removing myself from a potentially deadly situation. He didn't agree, but he didn't argue, either. But I am sure that it was about safety; couldn't have been about revenue. And that is really my point in bringing it up.

So, the short answer is that I don't like the carpool lane access for money. If it were a private road, I guess there wouldn't be much to argue about. As far as I know, nobody voted on having carpool lanes. Somebody, somewhere, decided we would, and you know that the taxpayers were somehow charged for it. So the road the we paid for, that we can only use if we meet a certain criteria, can be used by somebody who can afford to break the rules that the rest of us are bound by.

Damn, 'stuka, you did it again!

I get into the situation of Mr/Ms. MustDriveSlow all the time.

One time in the car pool lane, I got some distance from mr. slow and practiced my weaves in and out of "Car" - "Pool" - "Lane". Right side of car, left side of Pool, right side of lane.

Next thing I know, Mr. Slow is is signaling a lane change and opens up for me to pass.

Ever since, when someone is going frustratingly slow for an extended amount of time, I just kinda weave back and forth (within the lane, checking for hazards 360 before hand, getting some stopping distance between Mr. Slow). Most of the time the driver in front notices my impatience with them and will move over.

Which makes me think back, now that I ride a bike, a lot more people get out of the way for me than when I cage (Is it even proper to use "cage" as a verb?). I can't tell whether it's a kind "Aww, that rider wants to get over, I'll just mosy on over to the right lane so he can pass" or "if that SOB wants to speed up so he can kill himself, fine...." but in any event it's a means to end. My concern is someone may one day take the movements as a hostile gesture, but really it's more of "I'm bored going this speed, I'm just going to work on my chicken strips to kill time until you speed up or go the limit"

Gettin' pinched rollin' through a stop sign really sucks...but...
What about all those ding-dongs on bicycles who think it's thier god given right to absolutely blow stop signs and red lights?
Why dont cops crack down on these guys for a change????
Why do they think they need to be on the roadway when there is a huge paved shoulder, and they have the nerve to flip us the bird if we frighten them by zingin' past them???
They use the roadway and pay no insurance,no gas tax, they could at least obey traffic rules!!!
I think all bicycle riders who wish to use the street should need to register their bikes and display lisence plates and get red light tickets like the rest of us.
Sorry if this is a little off topic but its been brewin' in my brain for a while.

    LG,

Sorry for always getting your lacy panties in a bunch. I don't intend to! I hate for you always to have to take the time to get them readjusted! haha!

I feel pretty much the same that carpool lanes should be used for carpooling/motorcycles only. Even if people are not all jumping into the carpool trend, it gives others incentitive to do so. Otherwise, Mr Rich/Gas-guzzler can just say "F it, I am gonna just driving my gas-guzzling SUV/fancy Benz and just pay the fee and get the same perks as a carpooler." It is like shooting ourselves in the foot as far as creating the need to conserve, because the "only" way to get people to conserve is to just about give them no other option...aka..force them to pretty much. Sad but true.

Oh, and once a toll, always a toll. Tolls rarely ever go away even when they say it is only for 30 years, it is usually for life. They get too used to that constant stream of money coming in. One exception is the Coronado Bridge in San Diego which dropped its one dollar fee a number of years back....I could not believe it. I was flabbergasted!

Hey, what if the tolls were based on what size car that you have? Kinda like a how rigs are charged more than cars.

Thanks to you, I have given up the lacy panties. I am now working on a prototype silk & velcro Manly Men's undergarment. They will be sold pre-stained for the 50 plus crowd, and have adhesive strips for those of us who tend to bunch easily.

Powerslave: well, most bicyclists on nice bikes have cars and jobs so we do pay all those taxes you mention. And, in my City and State, many sales taxes go to pay for streets and infrastructure . I for one stop at all lights and stop signs, because a) I don't want to get killed and b) I HAVE gotten tickets in the past (as a stupid college kid) for running stop signs. When I am on a bike, I get down the road with no noise, no pollution (well, I do fart), and don't use any gasoline. So, when I do get in my cage or on my VFR, I really appreciate it all the more. And many other members here ride bicycles too. Sorry to be self-righteous but if you have had all the crap thrown your way (literally and figuratively) as I have in 38 years of bicycle riding, you'd be uppity too.
    Thanks...back to topic now...

Nungboy, I am a rider, too. Mostly I try to get out of the city, though just to avoid stopping at all those lights. I probably don't make a complete stop at the signs usually unless there is cross traffic, then I wait my turn. My excuse is of course, I'm clipped in but I know I could get a ticket. I do get aggravated at the kids riding all over the road, though instead of staying with the flow and to the right like Powerslave mentioned. Of course, I'm sure I did the same when I was young and dumb. I was just lucky enough to live through my youth...

Doh! See what you've started, derstuka!

On the bicycling thing, I live in an area that is frequented by tourists. Most all the roads here are two lanes with little to no shoulders and a lot of semi-blind corners. I spend most of the summer and a lot of the weekends stuck behind groups of bicyclists who ride two or three wide, and lots of solitary bicyclists who will not get out of the lane to let traffic around. I also bicycle, but not on these roads. If I could pedal along at 35 - 40 MPH, I probably would. In the mean time, I stick to tertiary roads that are hilly and mostly unoccupied.

Don't get me wrong here. I think bicycles are an excellent way to get around, as well as being great exercise. But most of the bicyclists that come up here tend to hog the road, not share it. I'm not trying to incite a riot; I do see a lot of the negative aspects of many bicyclists. And there are about 30% of them that do get over as far as they can, so there is hope.

Now, back to the pictures: What you can't see, drewl, is that I have flesh tone kevlar protectors on my legs...
