    Greetings,

I have been up with insomnia and perusing the boards, so I thought I would get some advice and kill 2 birds with one stone.

I bought an '07 VFR last June. I have had bikes before but never brand new. I have only put about 300 miles on it, at break-in speeds. I haven't been too bad, I have only gunned it a few times, and taken it to red line once (had to feel the VTEC, it was killing me).

So now that you have the history so far, how long should I go before changing the oil?
And since I ride less than 30 miles a month, are the mileage milestones for maintenance still accurate?

Thanks and come see me in Alabama, I have no one to ride with :(

Move to California so you can ride year round like I do. My bike is 2 years old and I rack up 39,000 miles +

I never knew you needed someone to ride with to ride your bike. I always found that if I got out and rode it I might actually meet some people to ride with but I actually prefer riding by myself.:scared:

The town I am in is a dense traffic nightmare. It takes a little work to get to some nice riding roads, which I don't have time for during the week.

And being a truly southern town, there are not many people to ride with here; unless you count golf carts, 4-wheelers and pickup trucks without the bed attached.

I do ride alone, which is still great therapy, but I always enjoyed having others around too.

Welcome JonJon. I see your challenges but you will feel ALOT BETTER if you just ride a bit more. And yes, just sitting still the oil absorbs acids and stuff from the engine. Change that oil and also be careful that your fuel doesn't turn to turpentine on you.

Change the oil and filter now. It wouldn't hurt to do it again at the 600 mile mark either. You really do need to put some miles on your bike. What about to and from work?

    Wow Chomp,

I change mine every 5,000K (3,000 M) and have used synthetic since it was in the crate. Maybe I am overdoing it. But my oil changes come every 2 months or so, summer and winter.

Now....if I could get someone to answer my other thread about should I need a valve job around 50,000KM (31,000 miles) I would be utmost grateful. Anyone?

PS...Drink beer....it's good for the digestive system....

I, personally, would use the 600 mile mark as the point of a first oil change. Trust me...when you look at the old oil and are able to easily see little metal flecks after that first change, you'll be glad you did. (Seriously, it looked like someone sprinkled glitter in the oil).

Change the oil and if you only rid e30 miles a month add StaBil to the gas to stabilize it. After about 60 days gas will start to break down. StaBil will help extend that and keep the gas from going bad.

What part of Alabama? I do tend to get down there from time to time. Bought my V-Strom May 1, 2006 and it has 22,000 miles on it. Got my VFR in August and it has 4,500 miles on it. Alabama is just right next door ;)

Drewrey's Standard Lager's the best. Used to work at Redwood and Main when the old brewery was still there pre 1978. Was back your way this past New Years for a week a rather sad reason. Death in the family...natural... Couldn't believe it. From -9 to 0 C in January in the Peg What's up with that?

    Hey,RANDY,
I'll tell you what's up with that:
15cm of friggin' snow predicted for tonight.:frusty:
I think I've put more miles on my sled then on poor VFR.:frusty:
Where's that global warming we've been promised?
BTW,we hit -50 below this winter.

I know. That happened about a week after we left the Peg. I watch the weather channel and feel sorry for you flat head folk from the prairies. I escaped in January 1978. Come to think of it, on January 17, 1978, when I drove out of Winnipeg and headed west, the temperature was -25 and there was a blizzard all the way from Winnipeg to Regina.

Next trip out there I may look you up.

June or July! That's Mosquito hunting season there isn't it. I understand they have discovered a new bird there. They have called it the Canadian Mosquigoose. Arrived on scene after the mosquitoes had their way with the wild geese there.
Flathead. I ran head first into a brick wall when I arrived here just to loose the handle.

That is West St. Paul you hang your hat in isn't it? Had a former co-worker live out that way, maybe closer to Selkirk, not sure. Went fishing for Pickerel near your place a couple years ago. That is Walleye for our southern friends. Got myself a master angler. Would have thrown it back but it slipped from my hands to the floor of the boat. Gills started to bleed so It would die anyways so I kept it. Man was it ever tasty. Have eaten fish out of the Red before but they usually tasted a bit muddy. This one was fresh, pure, white, delicate fish.
