During the accident the corner of my brake master cylinder was ground off and the gasket is starting to show through. It does not leak but I do not want to take a chance. Honda says the assembly is discontinued so here is my question. What years can I swap it with and what bikes? Or am I just stuck with 86-87 VFR 750 and 700s?

In guess a third question is the part that holds the fluid under pressure in other words if it leaks will I loose all brakes?

I swapped the later model oval clutch and brake M/Cs onto my '86 to be able to use blue anodized covers; function is identical.

Do you happen to remember the year of the MC you used?

I used a set from a '93 but anything '90 or later is plug and play. It is just a matter of color; to keep the earlier grey tone use '90-'97. '98 and later are black

    - Yes, if it leaks, you should be planning to replace it. I doubt you will lose brakes suddenly, but it is a safety issue.

    - You should be able to swap to a newer master cylinder without much issue, all of them perform the same function. I'm not familiar with your bike, but check on the bike and look for piston size - usually its cast on the outside of the resourvoir. My guess its 14mm - Honda seems to use this size on most of its bike. Then head for Ebay and buy a Honda sporty bike part with the same size piston. - I think even 6th gen use 14mm now. You could also buy new, but it will be pricey.

    -------------------------------------

    Lets see off the top of my head - 4th gen = 1/2 inch, 5th gen = 1/2, 6th = 14mm,
    2005 Super hawk = 14 mm and F4i = 5/8 inch

Ok you other gurus - jump in here and list your mc size.

    Good luck,
    MD

3rd gen: 1/2" and probably the best fit. With those small 280mm discs, anything bigger than a 1/2" will tend to prematurely lock the brakes and lose feel. OE discs on 3rd aqnd 4th gen are 296mm. Do you need a set of 3rd gen?
