I just picked up a 97 VFR 750 with 7k miles on it. I know next to nothing about these bikes other than the origional owner didnt do any mods & took good care of it before going down. It has a bent shifter arm, broken tail light & cracked faring - other than that appears to be in great shape.

Would like to know of any problem areas with these bike as well as any good tips.

    Thanks

Ooo my man the list could be long or short depending on just how Kathy chatty one can be. I myself believe theres not a whole lot to watch out for once everything has been looked over. Probably #1 is the dreaded Voltage regulator, check to see if it looks replaced with after an market one and while your looking check the plug that plugs in for heat stress, you'll know what I'm talking about if it has it, you'll see it. with only 7k on it, man I'd be looking for possible carb issues to creep up as carbs hate to sit with stale gas in em for long periods of time, these have had issues with float bowls sticking like any other carbed bike thats sat for a long time they tend to get stuck floats which then you'll see smell gasoline. if this does happen run some good fuel injector cleaner through a couple tanks, I've heard good things about Sea foam too. No need to go to the shop for a service yet, it ain't due till the 12k mark. If those two items don't bites ya, then you are pretty much good to go. Sorry to hear it was laid over, Service Honda is a great place to get OEM parts at a great price, give em a call @ 1-800-828-5498. other than typical routine maintenance, there really isn't a whole lot that goes south. Good to hear about another 4th gen kicking around, You landed a great machine. Ask if you have any questions, theres lots of support here, and Oh and Mmm Welcome aboard.

I have a 94 VFR with 23,000 miles. The valve adjustment was done at 17,000 miles (everyone spot on) and had the dreaded voltage regulator failure last summer. Other than that just tires, oil changes and a couple of chains.

Glad to have you aboard and enjoy your Viffer!

Welcome aboard. You are going to love that bike, if you don't already. RVFR seems to have the bases covered. He is a knowledge guru in 4th gens.

I was riding my 96 today. Cruising along in 3rd gear, doing about 45mph, and just listening to the engine whine. I thought to myself.

    F&^k i love this bike.

Congrats on the VFR, and welcome to the group! The only thing I'll add is to change all of the fluids and lube the cables. You never know when/if it has been done.
