I'm looking into trying a 2006+ ECM on my 2002 VFR to try to cure the VTEC transition. The valve engagement is still pretty abrupt on my particular bike. I have Staintune pipes, O2 eliminators and a PCIII w/ a custom map via dyno-tuning. Also balanced the TBs. I have not removed the PAIR, intake snorkel or airbox flappers. So a few questions regarding using a 2006+ CDI/ECM/ECU on a pre-2006 6th-gen VFR: A) Will the ECM be a direct swap with no other parts needed? If other parts are needed...what are they? B) Has anyone performed this swap before in the past w/ positive results? I searched but didn't find anything w/r/t ECM swap. C) Does the ECM retain the mileage or is that stored in the gauge cluster?
Bumpy...normally don't do this, but the seller is patiently waiting for me to find out. Even if no one has performed the swap, someone must know ans. to the last question (C). I know Honda's CBR stores mileage in the gauge cluster itself...not sure about VFR.
Can't answer the mileage question but my local Honda rep told me you can just swap the ECM's to get the revised VTEC activation setup. I haven't tried it or checked the price so don't know for sure but it seems logical to me.
