there was a story a few weeks back in the DC area. A biker was doing 100-130 on the highway, and a cop decided to give chase. The biker was just hot-dogging and never knew the cop was there. He would slow a bit for traffic and then speed up again in the clear spots.
Police regs in DC dictate that the cop can only chase the biker if he has A.) caused physical harm to another citizen or B.) threatened or caused harm to the police officer.

The cop neglected both of these regs, and chased the bike anyway, not slowing down in the thick sections. He lost control, and caused a several vehicle pileup which lead to the deaths of two innocents and five people being severely injured. The cop is now looking at 20 years for endangering the public and manslaughter. There are no charges pending for the biker, who either stopped or found out about the crash and turned himself in.

Im not sure whose side I am on here. I mean, in a roundabout way, the deaths are the bikers fault, but directly, it is all the cops fault. I bet police will be pretty reluctant to chase bikes down there now. Those LEOs have to make tough decisions often, I cant imagine awarding a speeding ticket is worth risking so many lives though. Hmmm.

NT....did you watch the video senor? It was a bicyclist. I thought it was funny because of the maneuvers that he was pulling, and he was a fast SOB.

In the interest of concern for motorcyclists/cars outrunning cops and causing accidents and innocent loss of life I would agree with you....but this instance was just too darn funny.

The Simi tried to block the bike, what a numb nut. I would like to have heard the conversation between the trucker & the HP.

Perfect! It reminds me of the SF bike messenger days in the 70's! Cars have no chance without just wrecking him... or her.

Well, it's pretty common for HP to ask for assistance from the truckers to assist in a stop, as to why those 2 trucks were parallel to each other.

So no fault of the trucker.

    p.s.

When I was doing OTR driving I was asked by a state trooper to swerve both lanes on a interstate in Texas to slow up a speeding DUI & probation violator (convected rapist) running from them, he flew off the highway & died, no charges were brought against me, & the suite was dropped.

All said, the great bicycle escape was pretty funny

Dang DerStuka, I thought I could keep that part of my life quiet around here! Well, actually it wasn't me but since I only got my first car when I was 28, I did my fair share of illegal things on my bikes! I don't wish to comment on them openly on this Forum though! I could tell you some stories though (in private)!
