    Would I buy a VFR 1000?
Simple answer is I don't know....
Yes if it lost a few pounds...
Yes if it could still do serious touring in comfort...
    Yes if it looked good...
Yes if hard bags were included...
Yes if it does not give up any more sporting capability...

No if it morphed into a big pig like the FJR or Concourse...
No if they take styling cues from the CBR 1000...
No if they add doo-dads like tire pressure monitoring or keyless starting like the Kawasaki...
No if for some reason they use a straight four...

For some reason(I hope I'm wrong) I kind of feel like the VFR could disappear all together...
Honda puts NO effort in this model anymore(no promo,no significant updates)...It almost seems like they just want it to fade away.:pout:

I don't need more power. I'd like smoother throttle response to make riding in parking lots and traffic easier. It would be nice to have a gear indicator. I'd also like less weight, if weight can be trimmed without losing any of the good qualities of the bike.

Also, a bit more built-in storage would be helpful; not a lot, but it would be nice if I could store a map and dark glasses without having to use a tank bag.

    Not off by much

    538 is dry weight.

Add Gas, coolant, and oil and she comes in at a whopping 606 lb. My Harley weighs 672 and still feels lighter than the VF1000R.

The problem with the VF1000R is all the weight is very high, and with a high COG, it makes each ounce felt that much more.

If everything else stayed the same and Honda just crammed another 200 cc's into it, then no way. I really like my vfr, but to be honest, I bet I am among the taller customers out there. Ergo-wise, if there was a 1000 in the showroom and it fit better for me, I'd swap it out in a minute. But for now, I couldn't be more happy. I am a team player after all, whatever it takes to be a member here!!

100 HP isn't enough for sport-touring? Where in the &*#@ do you guys ride that you need 120 HP? I like my VFR just fine for what I use it for - which is pretty much every kind of riding I like to do. I am considering one more mod, though - to iPod. I am going to load a gear whine so I pretend my VFR has gear-driven cams!

Hey now, some of us do track days....more power is nice, it's nice to have and not need. But when you you need more power but don't have it, that's not cool. Ok, I'll be honest. My name is Doug, and I have HP envy. I don;t like the fact that the new 600's weight less and have more HP than my 750. Something just doesn't seem right about that to me. I am trying to rectify that though, even though it's gonna cost lots of $$$.

    I heard once that 1hp ~ 6lbs on a friend's 600cc race bike.

Now do the math and figure how fat  their passenger is to need 120 +hp
How fat you ask? She works in oil drilling wearing stilletto heels!
How fat is she? Her jeans have a tag on the back pocket that says Goodyear!
How FAT ? That is why folks order the replacement rear suspensions with "custom" set ups.

(just kidding guys and gals. We know it is really needed to flick off the dirt and keep the chain cleaner)

If I could smoke a Busa in a drag and beat a CBR1000 on the track... I would buy a VFR1000 in a second. Hell... even if "I" couldn't but the book specs said I could, I'd still buy it.

    Only if....

    Absolutely, if...

It was just under 1000cc for insurance purposes
It didn't gain any weight or higher CG
    Lost the V-tec garbage
and looked like this...including center under-seat exhaust

Looks like a hard-core sport bike. Is that what you want the VFR to become? There are already lots of liter bikes like that out there (albeit without V-4 engines). Why not just buy a CBR1000RR?

For me to seriously consider buying it would need to have..

    1. Gear driven cams, or an extremely refined, much smoother VTEC system.
    2. Improved suspension
    3. About 25 more hp would be perfect.
    4. Center stand.
    5. Same ergos
    6. Not look like an alien spaceship, like the current 6th gens.
    7. Same super smooth feel as my 4th gen.

Im with you Doug. An extra 20hp would be very very nice, however then again when I crack open the throttle I have to hang on..... so I will still take the 100hp that she has.

I envy the guys, that are only clocking in at 160lbs. Its like they have an extra 10hp on the same bike.

I still see a 2001 929 in my near future. That should calm the power needs.

Geez this thread wont die -guess I gotta contribute to the delinkquency  ---

The CBR1000RR is not a V4. For me dmmhecton has got it close. Ergos may be a bit over low on the clips ons. As long as the bike is light and has simular wind protection and ergos about like a 4th gen and its badass in the twists I'm gonna be a happy camper. Dont really care about 1000cc either. If Honda would just make 800cc as powerfull as a GXSR750 - you got a winner by me.
Oh yeah - No fricken linked brakes!

This thread always seems like the battle of the tourer guys vs the sporty guys, kinda like a 5th gen vs 6th gen discussion. :juggle:

UM - didnt I say all this on page 2?

i just rode a gsxr750 a couple months ago yes it is faster BUT you have to ride it like a 250. rev the livin shit out of it to get it to do any thing. i would much rather have my 5g or my vf1000r. or a new vfr1000 with enough torque to pull tree stumps and about 150 hp and 450 lbs. that would be fun!!!!!

Not me, it is hard enough already to stay out of trouble with an 800 VTEC. The last time I got pulled over I was going double the speed limit and wasn't even trying to go fast! If anything, I should buy a smaller slower bike.

Hey R.W. I just came back from my local Honda dealership here in Las Vegas. The guys there said that Honda is really working on a VFR 1000. I cant believe it. I replied to your thread about the 1000 and so did many other riders. I guess we all prayed that they will come out with one. Did you hear about it yourself, thats why you came out with that thread or were you just curious? I think it's only a matter of time b4 we see one. Thats when i'm trading mine in. Honda is ruthless and very secretive when it comes to keeping projects away from the media, I'd be very surprised if a dealership found out the news before a major press conference on a VFR 1000 was announced, so I'm at the point where I would almost have to see it to believe it.

When this thread was started I had no idea the thread would become so popular, I actually thought the Sporty guys and the Tourer guys would agree on the bigger displacement or more HP & Torque on a 800 version since they now have the technology to make a 800 version 125 Hp, but I was surprised on responses like Alaskan's of why would anybody want 120 hp VFR or why would they not get a inline soulless CBR 1000 instead of a V4 VFR 1000 kinda surprised me, just goes to show you the VFR following will always have two camps.
