Here are some poor quality pictures of the Mag Knight magnetic "color matched" tank bra, just for reference. If you want some particulars, ask and I will tell...

Damn, I really dislike dial-up connections...

Have you thought about cutting it to show off the RWB better?
I just put on a tank slapper too. it's already scratched. Glad I got it.

What color is your tank bra drewl? Black or yellow?

BTW...did you write them a review telling you how much you love it? I guess if you do they might send you some free magnet shizzle...."might" is the key word.

I use the 'slapper' term generically to refer to the ribbed thingy that runs up the center of the tank to the top. it is black, and adhesive backed. sorry for any copyright infringement, it was strictly unintentional.

The fit was a genuine pain. You need to download the installation video to get a good idea of what is involved ahead of time. Part of the reason I have not removed it to trim it is I suspect the I'll have to go through the "lift and separate" process again.

Basically, it is made from the same magnetic vinyl that you use to hold stuff to the 'fridge. You should lie it in the sun before you install it (tough to do in November). The initial alignment is pretty important, too, as well as getting everything really clean. After that, you end up with some areas that do not fit quite right, and you use a heat gun and hand pressure to stretch and mold it into where it needs to go.

I do have to say that it stays put at an indicated 140MPH, which probably means 130, although it has "re-bubbled"(?) in one place, meaning it will be time for the heat gun again. It has not sat out in the sun for any amount of time, so that might affect it long term.

So all in all, I like it. I do want to add something to the top of the tank to protect it from the magnetic tank bag, long term. Tough area to keep dust out of on a trip.

Hey lg, if your not into your warning stickers you should take them off before it's too late. A hair dryer and some wax after will do the trick nicely. Takes a whole 45 seconds per. Maybe 47 sec if your confused.

You know, I have some sort of fascination with those darn things. I am not sure whether to remove them or not. They are essentially useless and don't look good, but I feel sorry for them, somehow...

Do you just heat and peel?

I went through 2 or 3 of the Mag Knight on my 5th gen. They never seemed to fit exactly right (no heat gun) and would separate enough to allow dirt/grit to accumulate under it. They would eventually tear after numerous removals for cleaning.

For me, the expense isn't worth it, so I am currently protector-less. A regular coat of quality polish and wax is working for me now , but I may end up getting some sort of grippy mat'l racers use.

I agree with you maddog, I spent 2 freakin' hours installing my first Magknight protector. It was perfect for 3 rides and then it started to delaminate along the upper edges - I think it was due to having to put extended heating to it to get it to fit right in the first place. I bought a second one and was about 3/4 of the way through the install, started laughing, ripped it off and threw it in the trash. I can't recommend these things to anybody. For the price they should fit way better than they do. I went a different route and I've been way happier. If you want to see what I went with go to the "pics for jasonsmith thread" for a photo. Sorry LGN, I hope you have better luck.

Oh, fine. NOW you tell me... It could be that you're secretly lusting after it, and you want me to sell it cheap.

I decided, after the initial "fitting", that I wouldn't replace it with another one if I had any issues with it. I am going to remove it to trim it, on a hot sunny day, so I'll have an idea of how well it has been protecting.

As Larry the Cable Guy would say, "Now I don't care who you are. THAT'S funny!"

    Good one!

But if you ever get an ergonomically formed refrigerator... Well, knowing you, Norcal, you'll probably convert an old VFR gas tank into a beer cooler. So you would have a beer cooler magnet you could write on.

They must of gotten worse. Several people I used to ride with swore by the MagKnight over the standard cloth/leather tank bra. It's just too bad that second-look can't keep up any more, they always matched decently, but the elastic gives out after time, but it did take a while. I just use the basic black one now on my all while '06, looks good, protects the tank, and got it from the dealership for free with purchase of new motorcycle.

Personally I wouldnt use that on any bike. All it is is a magnet sheet. If you have ever taken a magnet sign of the side of a pickup then you know what I'm talking about.

Once dirt gets behind it, which it will it'll cause little rust spots. We have a work truck that's an '04 but the white paint still looks brand new until...........you take off the magnets and see the hideous rust spots.

Man, you have good eyes! I don't think I would have seen that. That is an MRA windscreen with an adjustable "spoiler". Here's the link:

    http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/1232/91/

It works pretty well, compared to stock. The air stream is uniform, as in no turbulence or buffeting, but not as high as I would like it. I tried a Puig Touring, which I did not like nearly as much.

That particular picture was in the Sierra mountains on Highway 80, right next to the first snow skiing resort (heading east, that is). Yeah, it was really nice day for February!

I had a 94 VFR and used a Mag Knight tank Bra for 4 years and removed it 4x. I never had any problems with the magnet or the paint surface beneath it.
