I never liked how my front fender looked. After looking at pictures of various sport bikes, I decided to have mine modified. Although it was my idea to do this, forum member SEBSPEED is the one that did the work. I think it gives my bike a leaner, race-like look up front.

    I welcome all comments.

The front part of the fender was patterned after the '08 CBR1000RR while the back part was patterned after the Ducati 1098.

I'd prefer a little more left on the rear of the fender to give it more of a balanced look, but it's still pretty cool as is. Nice work!

Good grief, every time I see it, that new CBR 1000 gets uglier & uglier. WTF was Honda thinking?

    KC-10 FE out...

I agree with you. If I could have Seb do it over again, I'd have him leave a little more in the back. However, in all fairness to Seb, he cut it the way I asked him to.

According to Seb, "I used a selection of airtools including a high-speed cutoff wheel, a fist(angle) grinder with a 60 grit disc and a fine 3M scotch-brite Roloc disc, and a sanding drum mounted in a straight die grinder to clean up the two large curves on the forward end of the fender. Also used my benchtop belt sander to straighten up the long flat edges."

And yes, he made some templates.

No joke. That bike's ugly as shit.

I'm perfectly okay with some people not liking it.

One of the nice things about the VFR is the flexibility you have in making it look different. You can put side cases, a top case, tall windshield, backrest, etc. and make it look like a really nice tourer. You can also take the path I've taken and go for more of a race bike look. Regardless of what you do (or don't do), even though the current generation has been around six years now, I still think it looks fresh.

I'm a firm believer in doing what "You" think is right. There are always going to be folks that don't agree when it comes to styling cues. I'm glad you did what you wanted to do. Enjoy your bike.

Hey everybody, yeah, I squeezed this fender out for Steve a little while ago.

I have not made templates, as I didn't think to do it before sending it back to Steve.

I laid the first side out by eye with 1/8" masking tape:

    Then cut it:

Then made a temporary template from masking tape to transfer to the other side:

    And done:

And yeah, I would leave more on the back if were to do this to my own fender, I would probably cut in just far enough to match the contour to what the front looks like.

Anybody interested in having theirs cut? No repaint needed, just a little touch up on the cut edges...

I think it would look better if the front fairing, fender, and lower fairing were blue, with the tank and diagonal on the fairing a pearl white, with a red stripe dividing the two colors. See my gallery for the concept... :)

Since I like the blue, I'd leave more on the fender. I'm wondering if you'll get some extra flex in the fender at speed eventually leading to failure?

If you like it, that is what matters - it is your bike. Mine is bone stock still... well, with new tires and oil and ....

Doubtful - if anything, there's less for the wind to catch.

Even though it really doesn't matter at this level, the more tire that is exposed the worse the aerodynamics are, and the motorcycle is already one of, if not the, worst aerodynamic shapes for a vehicle.

I liked it before. However my opinion does not matter. As long as you like it.

    Excellent craftsmanship though.

If I could do it over again, I would have it look more like what you see below. I think I've seen these fenders on eBay for $20, so at some point I may ask him to do another one.

How come nobody's said anything about the rotors?! I used some fine sandpaper on the carriers to scruff 'em up a little and then taped off the ring rivets and disks with masking tape. I then shot them with three coats of semi-gloss high temperature engine and case paint (a rattle can of it cost me $10.)

Maybe even more than that Steve, it's gotta flow into the front better.
