Say what you want. After 85 miles at 25 degrees, I was cold. Now I'm not. Ice does scare me though.

I've ridden down to 26 degrees without heated gear and I did fine with what I had on. What I wore then was:

    Underarmor winter top
underarmor summer top on top of that
Sleeveless shirt for extra insulation on the torso
    Snowboarding Long Underwear pants
    two layers of socks
My Olympia Textile Riding gear both layers.
    Sidi Doha boots
    Olympia Winter Gloves

My problem with this setup, which was said a few times here, was that I felt cramped and had limited motion. Due to that I hunted around and I finally got a good deal on the new Tour Master Heated gear. I only bought the Jacket and Gloves for now. The Jacket is amazing. I rode the other night, while it was snowing (got caught at work) and was 28 degrees and all I had on was a thin sleeveless shirt and my dress shirt and I was toasty warm on the way home. The next night I went for a little ride and wore just a summer underarmor shirt under the heated jacket liner and the Olympia top layer jacket. I actually couldn't run the jacket liner on high since it was too warm, I ran it on medium and Low. The gloves worked reall well also. My hands did not get cold at all, but the heat with the gloves is not a intense as the jacket. You don't really feel it with the gloves, you hands just don't get cold.

I would recommend the tour master gear to anyone. The hookup and three position heat controllers work well and the gear is of a solid quality. I'm saving my pennies for the pants now.

And by the way the Doha's are great boots for riding, but they aren't for winter. I think I need to get a pair of Gortex riding boots for winter.

I know this is off topic a little but will the stator hold up to the electric gear?

You can go to Powerletproducts.com to access an explanation on how to calc excess capacity for most bikes. They do say that most late model bikes have enough capacity to run two heated garments without a problem. I noticed the conformation show picture. I am a part time handler of Bearded Collies.

    Dogs VFrs

    slausmann,

Thanks for noticing Cubby the bear. Yes I have shown him in the past he needs a major. The only problem he tore his ACL in August!!!!!!!

Almost the $ of my 02 VFR used!!! Hey it really is okay he loved the shows but being white it hurt him. Akitas are rare in white and he has a tinge of tan on his ears. So he needs a black nose not a liver color. Someone suggested I get his nose tattooed black. Now that is crazy but I'm sure some do.

He is such a good boy I would have paid twice the price to see him okay. I've had Akitas since 87 and lost 2 to bone cancer so the ACL was a great relief for the family.

Bearded collies are nice dogs shoot me over some pictures when you get a chance.

    Joe

    Powerlet

Slausmann, I just installed a Powerlet on my '07 about two weeks ago. Ordered it from Powerlet's Website. I purchased the Left Panel Powerlet so I can also use it for cellphone or GPS.

For the heated gear I was leaning towards the lower left seat Powerlet. Powerlet makes this for the heated clothing specifically check the link thing here: http://www.powerletproducts.com/products/honda_rearset2.php. The upper left fairing mount seems to be just the ticket for my radar detector w/techmount stem stand though. After all this time I thought I was going to hell and yet I still get cold...............................................

    Powerlet Rear Set

I just installed the Powerlet Rear Set recepticle on my VFR. I ordered mine from California Sport Touring. This is what I ordered:Powerlet Products Honda VFR 750F & 800F Rearset Powerlet Kit (All) PKT-013 It's a universal kit. However, after looking at the set from Powerlet Products, I wish I'd ordered from Powerlet instead of CA.S.T. I had to modify the CA.S.T. outlet to fit better. Otherwise it would have surely hit the heel of my boots. Attached are the pics: first is the stock location using the original hole, second pic shows the hole I drilled to move it back, third is the new location.

    heated gear

    Hi Folks,
I have had Gerbings heated jacket liner and gloves for about 13 years. It works very well, but is kind of a pain for short trips like my commute to work. I got it mainly for touring. If you go this route, size the liner so that it's a little snug.
I'm a strong proponent of heated grips, though. They work great and make you feel warm all over. I recently installed a set of Oxford heaterz on my Buell Ulysses and they are fantastic! Nice controller and a very well made kit for about $55.
I also have terrible circulation in my hands, and the grips help immensely. I'm thinking of getting a second set for my viffer.
    Cheers!
    Craig

    BMW style power outlets

    Hi Folks,
I don't know what these outlets cost at other places, but you can get them at any John Deer store. They are a fraction of the cost from BMW, and are made in Germany. They look identical to me. Less than $10 last time I bought some.

Yeah, the Powerlet kits are not as inexpensive as an individual power socket. The nice part about the Powerlet kits: the wiring harness and all of the necessary bracketry and hardware is included too. This saves the time and headache of having to fabricate these pieces. The quality of the Powerlet components and the ease of installation makes it worth the price of admission. What is your time worth? Cheapest isn't always best. Just my opinion.

    Hey Whitte,

That install looks nice and clean, however, I have a question. I know that you relocated it some from the stock location, but it still looks like a plug could be knocked out of the socket or rub on your boots/leg/body in someway. Do you have a problem with this? Just curious, because I think it looks nice and clean, but would be worried about interference.

Quite. I was merely letting folks know that if they just need a BMW-style plug or socket, they are identical to John Deere parts and possibly available locally. Someone may wish to replace an auto-style plug with a moto-style plug on a radar detector or something.
I'm pretty sure JD doesn't sell any sort of motorcycle bracketry, so for that one would have to look elsewhere.
