I don't know if this is a problem, but it is somewhat annoying. My brake pads squeak a little when i'm stopping. Not the whole time, just when the bike is almost stopped (i.e. those last couple of feet as I am stopping). I've looked at the brake pad wear, and they seem fine. I also haven't noticed any loss of power, but I would rather not squeak. Anyone run into this problem?

    Thanks,
    Mel

You will need to remove the brake pads and apply some "brake pad grease" to the BACK of your pads. Apply the grease to the metal side of the pad where it touches the caliper. You can find it at any auto parts store.

Back in the day, Duct Tape would work as well.

I also use a silicon lubricant made specifically for braking system moving parts, and apply some to the retaining pins where they slide through the ears on the brake pads and where they slide through the caliper body. The NAPA name is Sil-Glyde. It's possibly the same type of lube.

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to swing by the auto parts store and see if I can pick some of that lubricant up. I know it isn't functionally a problem, but my bike just doesn't seem smooth when the brakes are squeaking.

You did not state which pads you're using??? What??

Changing pad compound is usually a fix for squeaking....

I know this is an old thread but this helped me a lot when I started having the same problem. The brakes would only squeak when I pulled the lever HARD and it was just a few feet before a complete stop. It was annoying and thanks to eddievalleytrailer's suggestion on getting brake grease now I'm not getting the squeaking anymore.

This site rocks because of the great input everyone provides!
