Can't wait until it warms up enough to try out my new helmet that came in today. After allot debate, and web searching, I went with the Shoei RF - 1000. I can't get over how much lighter it is than my old KBC.
I got the Axis Yellow color so now maybe I'll be seen. I'll look like a big Lemon coming down the road.........but a safe lemon!

I know it came be tough at times to find good customer service, so I wanted to tell you that I was really impressed with the service from helmeharbor. If you go to their website and look at the helmets, they usually have a video on each one giving the good and the ugly. I had a question so called them, and the customer service was excellent. Fast shipping to.
Anyway, check out my new "Lemon".

Same hat :yo: here. Used it for about 1 1/2 years now. I like it, it just is a biznatch trying to control the fogging in cold mornings. I think I am a heavy breather...must be thinking about Manuela too much....

I have the same helmet (cherry version) and I like it. I seem to have a Shoei shaped head.

    Well golly gee...I'm blushing!

Hey Jamma. You ever looked at any modular "flip-up" face type helmet? I was seriously considering one of those. I know that Beemer riders love them, and they are popular in Europe. It would be really nice to just flip open your helmet sometimes.

People keep saying that the flip up kinds aren't that safe. But I think recently they have come along way no? I tried one on recently, man was it nice.

I forget which issue of MC mag it was bit they said yellow was awesome for visibility, good choice.

Stuka, I did consider the NOLAN Modular Flip-up but, the guy at Harbor Helmet told me the down fall with the Nolan or any Modular Flip-up was more wind noise, which I'm wanting to avoid, even though I did wear ear plugs.

I just got a new RF-1000 myself, went with the white myself aslo very visible. Waiting for the weather to improve enough to try it out. But yes certainly a lot lighter than my old helmet. Haven't thought about the flip up type. Only guy I know who had one and used it had the flip up part flip up during a crash. Luckily his face didn't hit the ground after it flipped up. That sort of thing doesn't inspire confidence so I will stick with the tried and true.

I thought the same thing. I sold an expensive Shoei Multitec helmet after two weeks. The helmet has a different profile which closed off my peripheral vision just enough to cause me trouble. Two times I didn't see a car to my right until the last second. I always turn my head to look but the cars were so far forward compared the RF-1000's field of vision that it scared the shit out of me. After the second, I had enough! Went back to my nasty old RF-1000 and won't switch again.

I have a RF-1000 and a Nolan N102 - like both for differnet reasons. I do not think that Nolan is noisier than RF but all depends from you riding position relative to wind and windshiled. I use MRA Vario touring shield. It takes about two clicks of adjustment of the MRA spoiler to make the helmet noise and wind noise the same (2 clicks lower with Nolan). I also have Gen-Mar raisers which may puts me a bit higher. Just my .02

I retired my old RF-800 last year and got an RF-1000. It's a great lid, the vents do a good job in hot weather.
I got a Pinlock shield and antifog insert for it recently for cold weather riding. It does work well.

Derstuka, i just got back from a night mountainbike ride in a snowstorm. It was bitchin.

Sweet dude....what kinda bike you got? Make/Model, Type (full-suspension (FS), hardtail). I have a Kona FS, but 99% of the time lately I ride my Kona hardtail single speed. I am just an SS freak now. I like the challenge, and it makes the trails that you are used to on a FS geared bike different.
You just gots to giv'er your best and "grind" those hills with your one gear!

Keep on riding dude...it must be cold as a mother though! I am gonna hit the trails if I can this weekend.

Yeah, I was concerned about the windnoise as well, but I would not mind to try one out to see how it works. You might laugh, but I have been considering getting a modular HJC helmet. I actually like HJC, even though I have been riding Shoei for 12 years.

You should like it, best thing it has going over previous helmets is Zero buffeting and lower noise although still wear plugs when touring.

Have had my XR1000 Alloy since april '04 and have no complaints except being on my 2nd Iridium Gold Visor after accidently scratching the first and make sure it has a regular coating of Plexus and odd internal shampoo with Motorex Helmet Care to de stink it. Hint you can use the locking tab to lift it a crack to help defog.

same helmet, same prob. at least I think it's the same, I got mine from comp acc and it's the 'nerve' model but I think it was RF 1000. It's was discontinued right? anyway, it's not my favorite. I think I'll use it another year or so then upgrade to something cheaper. :)

Mine is called the RF-1000 "camber" model. Just funky colors is all. You look at any HJC's Reg? I was thinking about trying a modular (flip open) HJC.
