Hey all, I have two weeks left to choose whether to get the extended warranty or not! I have an 07 which in just a few weeks will have HID Xenon lights, a PCIII, O2 eliminators, a BMC air Filter, and a fender eliminator. Do all these mods void the warranty anyway?

Many have already said "warranty not worth it" or "warranty IS worth it" This is NOT one of those threads!!!

This is a "What will void your warranty?" thread.

Unless someone has some OBJECTIVE reason why a the extended warranty is good/bad. NOT interested in conjecture here. Thanks!!! :blah:

I specifically asked my dealer if modding would effect my warranty. He stated that you can do whatever you want as long as it wasn't to the engine. The question now is... does he know what he is talking about.

If he knows what he is talking about does he mean internal mods or does putting a PCIII on the thing mean messign with the Engine. I would assume yes, but I know on my car warrantees I have gotten away with mods to the intake, exhaust and even a chip without voiding the warrantee. On my 2002 Acura TL I even threw a SuperCharger on the thing and they still covered my tranny when it went (altough it was known TL problem).

Extended warrantys are more like insurance policies rather than a warranty. You'd have to sit down and read the contract CAREFULLY to see exactly what is and what is not covered, and to see their definition of a mod. You'll find they leave themselves a lot of wiggle room to get out of a claim.

Technically any mod that changes to the suspension, exhaust, & or operation of the motor outside of stock will void such warranty.
I know because I've gone through the hassle, & can tell you that if major work, a rep may show up, or ask for all mods made & pics to be e-mailed to them to decide.
If it's a costly fix, I guarantee it will be voided (luckily I new someone in HRC & the mechanic that warned me of this, so I took the bike back home & re-installed all the factory parts, & brought it back to the shop!

Honda is a stickler to there stock components, & are very strict on the warranties.

The mechanic told me of a 6th gen that had a bad cam & brought it in that had a K&N filter & 2-Bro's full exhaust, & had the warranty turned down do to modifications

My Dyno Tuner & I believe it says it on the PCIII instructions to remove B-4 taking the bike to the shop to avoid chances of the warranty being voided.

hmmm, so i need to save the old exhaust, air filter, and take off the PCII if I need to get service? bollocks!
hmmm, I am leaning toward not getting this extended warrantee. I am hoping that if it breaks, it is going to do so in the first year....

    thanks for the responses!

They would need to be able to prove that the "modification" caused a failure. And if you were unsure, just change it back to stock before bringing it in. The shop I worked at never gave anyone problems for having pipes, ect.

Power-House Honda shops have a harder time conceling/not reporting that there is some mods.

As for warrenty, my 6th gen took many sheeits @ the 2nd & 3rd year from new & the warrenty was well worth the $4299.00 in warrenty reciepts of work that was repaired.

GenLightening, love your mods on your VF1000F(although I would of done a 17 in the rear),
good work to keep the "REAL" V4's going
By the way, did you see my bike list of bikes of my '86/'05 VFR1000R:biggrin:

Way back when I did the swap, that was all I could come up with. I'm looking at a set of 17s (or a matching rear for my CBR front) and maybe a better front end. Just need to do some measuring. May have to make some "gullwing" triples to make things easier. It's kind of a sleeper, with only the pipes giving things away. That and the power wheelies it loves to do.

How big of a shoehorn are you using to get that engine in there?

Shoehorned in was a breeze & just custom mounts & the undertail exhaust, also went with a RC51 Ohlins front end & brembo brakes, Penske rear shock.
3 different bike dynos average between 142 to 151 ponies, so I go with about 145 @ the rear.
It's called the VFR Honda should of built, just think what it could do with FI & a good map

I'm looking down the road to make a SSSA RC51 with a major worked motor, & undertail exhaust Ti frame components & lots of CF, Brembo, Ohlins, Penske parts:tongue:
