I ordered the "static" tankslapper, and not the 3M adhesive one. You can't even tell it is there on the sides. The top tank part was a biznatch to get all of the bubbles and wrinkles out of, but it looks pretty good now. A few small bubbles here and there, but it doesn't bug me as the stuff is easily removable, and it just there to save my paint. Anything that will keep my baby looking good longer is a plus to me.

I'll try and add some pics later.

Did yours come with instructions? Mine did not come with anything. Not that instructions are really needed, but I thought it was weired that they did not at least send some recommendations on putting it on smoothly.

No, it did not. The print at the bottom when I purchased them said that you need to print/read the instructions from online, as no instructions will be provided. It shouldn't be that hard for them to print a piece of paper and put it in the bag though.

Did you get the static film, or 3M?

I agree with Stuka. Film works great. I got the complete kit for mine which came with both static film (tank) and 3M Film for the Head Lights and bottom fairing.
It's a great company to deal with. I had problems (controller error) with a piece and Lucas at Tank Slapper sent me another piece at no charge.

    Jamma, Jamma,

How hard was it to get the 3M on sans bubbles/wrinkles? Did you use a headgun/hairdryer? I was darn tootin' close to gettin' the headlight/fairing kit, and still might. Not sure if they have a lower fairing kit for the 5th gen though.

    Tankslapper

FYI on the tankslapper......the film has worked great. I applied it to my '07 RWB (I now have 7,200 miles on it with the film). The only thing I noticed is that my black riding pants tend to make some dark spots on the poly vinyl material on the side of the white tank. Most of it will come off with some cleaner/polish, but you can tell it's still there a little. I bought the entire kit, including the 3M adhesive film for the headlights. They work great too. This is some cheap insurance to avoid a lot of scratches.

Stuka, the 3M pieces seemed easier to apply than the static pieces, but where the 3M pieces went, you didn't have as many curves to deal with.
Unless you knew the 3M was on the headlights you would never know. I agree with the comment above..........cheap insurance.
I never had to resort to a hair dryer, but I feel your pain on some of the pieces trying to work out the air bubbles.

Stuka, is the film the kind of stuff that you wet the surface for and then apply?

Yes, it is. Just wash the painted surface to be covered, then they recommend wetting with a 70/30 water/rubbing alcohol mix. Then you just squeege out the water and bubbles. It is just a static film, so it will not permanent adhere, and is reusable.

I've used these as well. Both for my headlight and for the tank. Awesome quality, and Lucas is second to none for service. Great company to deal with !

they are an awesome company to deal with, but after putting the films on, each film has bubbled again repeatedly, including the 3m films over the headlights where there werent any bubbles to begin with (I think the headlights heated something up and caused bubbling). Either way, the material on my bike looks good in some places and crappy in others. I need to wait till it gets warm then reapply and see how it goes.

Biggest tip for doing this install is WAIT UNTIL IT IS HOT OUT. This stuff is impossible to work with if it is less than 60 degrees out. You will have a stroke. Honest to god.

That being said, hopefully I can get the rest of the bubbles out soon, and then it will protect my ride for years to come. I would suggest lucas and "tankslapper" to anyone. Just watch your blood pressure.
