I listen to music on the open road, that is about it. Need 100% of my hearing in the city. Need some new noise-cancelling headphones though.

wow, these winter threads can get intense... I just scanned through all 4 pages of those umm, comments and still think I'll listen to music if I feel like it. I also speed if I feel like it, ride a motorcycle even though many of the people at work feel the need to tell me the danger of it. I also like snowboarding, skydiving, scuba diving, running, weight lifting, cycling, bungee jumping, and several other low-risk activities like that where I worry constantly about dying. seriously... to each his own. big brothers, I need not. big brother I am. ;)

I like music when I ride, but not skydiving or scuba diving. That sounds really scary to me.

Ouch, wow such an intense thread. Well I primarily ride on backroads in Pa and when I do that I do listen to music via my Shure Headphones at a lower volume. I can easily hear my exhaust over the music and I can hear horns and some wind noise. I do not listen to music if I'm commuting through a high volume of intersections or riding in a city type setting.

you know I think what it is with me is that I live my life so casually that I enjoy intense hobbies. I realize that this is all temporary so I like to test the limits of it. My job gets intense at times, but most of the time it is just waiting for those intense times. I guess that the way I live my life also. I'm sure it will eventually bite me in the ass, but when all is said and done, ------------------- I will have lived.

You know as you get older your parents start to tell you things that you can't believe come out of their mouths. The other day my Dad told me that he had spent alot of time trying to protect me by telling me to not do this, or don't do that, and that I was never a good listener when he did. He concluded by saying the most amazing thing I think he has ever said to me - I have regrets that I didn't do a few things in my life that I am too old to do now, where as with you, you've done everything you ever wanted to do without fear of what the potential ramifications of those actions might be, someday you will be lying on your death bed with absolutely no regrets thinking there was something you should have done in your life that you never did. Unlike me. I thought that was a pretty cool way to sum it up, you can't live life doing things the way other people think you should.

I don't listen to music while riding. It interferes with my cell texting. :smash:

I couldn't agree more Norcal. Live your life how you want to. I try and steer clear of all of the mind-numbing media jargon that pollutes most people's brains about how we are all gonna die because of aging bridges, too-low tiger walls at zoos, or whatever the fear of the week is. However, in all seriousness, what would you say if a buddy shows up to your doorstep on his first bike ever, a gixxer 1k in shorts, flip-flops, and a skull cap ready to carve the canyons? He says that he wants to turn and top it out on the freeway as well. Would you turn a blind eye, or would you tell him your opinion of what he was doing.

Or if he likes to ride hard after drinking some beers? hahaha! I am being a smartass with my analogies...my point is just to live life however you want to, but there is always gonna be someone with an opinion....and that opinion might just save your hide to live the "wild life" that Reggie lives and we all admire him for it.

I would politely ask if he had happened to put me in his will, and if so, what was I getting.

10 years ago, sent away for a set of "Bass Monsters" (aka "Bass Blasters"). Found them in the back of motorcycle magazines for about $100. They are speakers, not headphones, designed to go inside your helmet. They sound great and allow noises around you to be heard. They are way more comfortable than earphones and stay in place when you're putting your helmet on.

Further, I use a wired remote with the iPod to be able to easily make adjustments when appropriate.

I use tunes on long trips only and at a level so I can hear what's going on around me. Being reasonable seems to be working - 25 years of riding with no street spills, knock on head. These things really make those long highway stretches more bearable.

I'm actually not that bad. I don't feel that risky anyway. I haven't jumped off a cliff recently. I haven't jumped off a bridge in years. Funny things is, I have never broken a bone (at least not a big one), have only had a few stitches, have only been on fire a couple times, and any wrecks I have had are usually minor. I think all the wild driving I used to do has made me much less likely to overcompensate when I get into a hairy situation... all that being said, I probably should make a will, though. ;)

Now that is what I'll talking about. Reg (and everyone in the neighborhood) can jam to his Kenny G!

Wait, isn't that OEM from an '89 Gold Wing?
