I fall into the FOG category and have been riding on and off since the earth started to cool.

I currently am aboard an '04 1100 Shadow but have been bitten by the Viffer bug after chatting with a rider from Iowa who was also touring NY/PA and saw his '04 black VFR800.

There are a couple for sale locally. One a black '06 demo with 1500 klicks for $9400 or another "new" '06 pearl white for $9850 before prep and taxes.

Anyway my plan on joining this forum was to learn all about the VFR what's great and what's not so great about this bike before taking the plunge.

Welcome! I was about to tell you that those prices were a bit high and that you should look around - then I saw the little maple leaf flag......There are quite a few Canadian VFR guys who cruise this forum and I'm sure they will step in to give you a hand in making your decsion, however I would like to offer my totally biased opinion.

I bought my '06 Pearl White machine brand new in September of 2007. I spent 6 months scouring the US via internet, cycle trader, word of mouth, any lead I could possibly get - just to find a white VFR. I had to have white. I guess you could say I was drunk on white lightning . That paint in the sunlight is amazing. I love the pearl effect.

Although you will find a that the pendulum of opinion swings pretty wildly around here, one thing is for sure - We all love our VFR's. Good Luck with your decision and I hope the next thread you start is titled "Just got my new VFR!"

Welcome Shadow. Good luck with your decision. Part of it may depend on how long the demo's warranty is, as compared to the new '06. The demo might give you more room to haggle even more because it is used in a sense. Then again, the new one is 2 years old now, and might give you room to haggle because they want to get rid of it. Tell them to add another year on the warranty and you will take it. haha

You'll be able to deal either way as the loonie is kicking the dollar's ass for the first time that I recall. The market has slowed considerably in the states since August and the economy slowed due to the knuckleheads who got adjustable rate mortgages on homes they could not afford to furnish.

Don't change your name to VFRider after you get the bike. just scratch your itch to go around corners.

Guys, thanks for the feedback though it took a while to read derstuka's reply as I was constantly distracted by that amazing avatar. Worth joining the forum just to see that!

I am going to visit the Pearl White at the dealer's this weekend. He's prepared to take the Shadow in on a trade so we just have to come to an agreement on the difference.

Since the Canuck buck is trading near par with the US $ the temptation is to look south for a better deal as the suggestion is that my dollar might go farther there. I just need to figure out what the costs are to bring the bike over the border. We have daylight-running light laws here too so it would have to be set up to meet that requirement as well.

    Thanks again!

Last time I checked the cost was minimal. There was a $200 and something fee plus all the taxes and what not. Nothing to crazy though. Overall the bikes are about 10%-15% more expensive here (Canada). The US has had some good deals come about. The prices you quoted are actually not that bad for "our" standards. I know of a new 06 white at a dealer for $11999.00  There is also a black 06 with 750k and they want 11500.00. Obviously they have a ton of wiggling room there. They have also been there since summer when I began looking for my ride. By the time all was said and done, I could have saved about 15% if I went south. I didn't because I am impatient and lazy. I also wanted a dealer on my side.

I'm fairly certain that all the Gen 6 VFR's run with the lights on. Don't think you have to worry there. Plus a two button push and she goes from mph to kmh.

Thanks Jason, according the the two dealers I have talked to, Honda is offering $2K rebates until the end of January to help them move out their unsold inventory.

Hey I lived on the North Shore for a few years back in the late 80's early 90's Only time I was ever able to ride my motorcycle in February!

I ended up paying $5600 including, of course, my trade in which I thought was a pretty good deal. Too good for me to pass up anyway. They'll hold the bike for me until the riding weather returns which also frees up some room in my garage.

Next step is getting a deal on hard bags!
