that's why its the Peoples Komunist Republik of Kalifornia. you read the article about how they shanghied Jesse James right? he offered to test every bike hemade out of his own pocket, but all they wanted was him to pay the fine. So much for being about the environment.

I used to be OK with being a native Californian; now I am just embarrassed. Out of curiousity, I wonder what sort of vehicles the CARB members drive, and how much fuel they consume trying to save us all from ourselves...

still live in Cali, still love it
like anything, it has pros and cons, and for an awful lot of people, the pros far outweigh the cons
    myself included
and I have driven cross country, what like 5 times I think, so I have seen first hand, more of this country than most

as far as the Jesse James fine, sometimes a fine is not just to rectify the fault, but to punish someone for defying the law, and certainly in this case, it would also send a message to others. So by going after a big fish, they can get the little fish to comply, without spending time and money on multiple investigations.

I choose to live here also knowing that we have some strange laws occasionally. I have driven across the good ole USA 5 or 6 times myself and those weird laws that "Kommiefornia" has keep it very clean in comparison to some places I have been. It is aggravating that they are bothering with bikes, though, given that many californians are driving huge SUVs that probably pollute more than a bike with a power commander...

I'm just glad that I got my PCIII USB and O2 sensor eliminators before nobody would ship them to CA. I have also made sure to preserve the necessary emissions pieces that came on the bike so that it could be returned to original, if necessary. Now if I could only get up the nerve to spend the big dough on a Motad header, I would be able to sleep completely through the night. I've lived all over the world, but I always come back to Northern California for a reason, I haven't been able to find a place that fits me as good as this place does. Adapt and overcome.

I can't figure out why the rest of the country fools with California anyway. I just couldn't imagine life with "Big Brother" looking at everything I do. I run a semi truck repair shop, and talk to drivers who deliver there. They say trucks can only idle for 5 minutes!! How in the world do they expect a driver to get any rest in the sleeper w/o heat or a/c?? A cop can arrest you for leaving a dog in an unheated or un-air conditioned car, but a human truck driver is REQUIRED to do exactly that!! Some drivers try to get around the law by keeping a small dog with them while on the road. A modern diesel truck will only use 3/4 gallon of fuel per hour while at idle. I hear more and more drivers who refuse to deliver to CA for that reason as well as the other "over the top" regs they have to deal with in CA. Why do the people of CA continue to vote these natzis into office?

We don't vote all of these people into office, however the vast majority of Californians seem to be happy and proud about setting these types of standards. BTW didn't you know we're all a bunch of hippies out here, man? If you think your immune to CA regs because you live somewhere else, all I can say is, give it time. Sorry to say that to you EVT. It is what it is: CA, love it or leave it. I think I'll just stick around and fake it.

I know all too well how the CA nazis' ideas (no matter how crazy they are) can affect the rest of us. TN just passed one of those stupid smoking laws. Now in TN there is no smoking in any business where anyone under 21 is allowed. I had to ban minors from my shop (almost all my employees smoke). I can't figure out why a few left over hippies want to cram their ideas down everyone's throat. Aren't they the ones who invented the idea for everyone to live in their own way without the will of others being thrust on them? I know I'm beating a dead horse, but they are out of control in CA. I just feel sorry for those of you normal folk in Northern CA (and the few survivors in the south) having to put up with the "butinskiis" in the CA government:spy: . I know a lot of the dogooders are not elected, but a few good elected officials could at least try to keep them in check before the rest of the country is assimilated. And to think, I thought we lived in the land of the free. Boy, was I wrong. George Washington would turn over in his grave if he could see what his dream has turned into.

yeah as opposed to states that want to mandate the teaching of "intelligent design" in schools
or states that make certain sex acts illegal even when done between consenting adults
or states that go out of their way to say who you can and can't marry
or states that elected Bush the dumb a$$ into office to wreak havoc on just about every part of our domestic and international lives

You're gonna hate me Eddie, because I actually like the no-smoking in restaurants or bars law....I hate coming home smelling like a carton of cigarettes! Although they can smoke outside in a restaurant or bar many times. The waiters and waitresses association started that actually because of secondhand smoke. Some of the other laws are pretty nutty though. I don't agree with the under 21 though....should be an adults age of 18 at the least. But I digress on the subject at hand.....

The vast majority of people don't smoke, that is why such laws have grown in popularity. It is now very strange to me now, when I go somewhere in another state and they ask "smoking or non-smoking?". Or when I go to a bar and there are people smoking around me. Just very strange and very disgusting. Which is strange, 'cause I was a bartender and waiter for years and years (12 years of college ;-0) and that was almost all before the laws were passed and I never noticed it really. But now, when I am exposed to it, it is glaringly apparent. It actually makes it less likely that I will go out to a bar or restaraunt in some states, or if I go, more likely that I will curtail my stay significantly.

And lets be honest, to call CA laws facsist, or in any way resembling communism (which for most is represented largely by the former USSR, or China and Cuba) is just way over the top. And frankly probly insulting to those that have experienced the real thing. To even suggest that is indicative of a lack of understandign of what those words really mean. Let's face it, if the vast majority of CA wanted to change virtually any one of the existing laws, we could (except in conflict with Federal law of course). So I don't know how you can insult it. A specific law may not work for you as an individual, but if the overwhelming number of actual residents were actually against it, it would change. I don't know for sure, but it at least seems this way, that CA actually passes more laws and regulation via a statewide vote, than any other state in the Union.

Yeah, on the increasingly rare times I ride out of state anymore. I find it really hard to resist the urge, and sometimes I fail. I will be going along and be like, "oh, yeah, I am not supposed to do this here, whoops" Just because I have so many miles in CA, and it is second nature to me to split. If the need or opportunity arises, and conditions are right, I am used to just doing it. That said, and this is obviously colored by the kind of riding I do out of state, there is a lot less traffic when I am in OR, NV, or WA (except the Sea-Tac corridor) then when I am in CA. So I am tempted a great deal less.

and the comment about being able to ride year round, that is only in part of the state. You have to remember that CA is MASSIVE compared to most states. And it covers a wealth of topography and climate. There are places in CA with Snow into May and June most years, and I have seen it in July. It isn't all like you see on "Boobwatch" reruns.

Yes Commiefornia sucks & is why after 44 years I finally left there because of the political left smothering laws.

To bad, it is the best state to ride in & has every out door activity & environment in the world to do & be in.

So I just visit there instead, that way my aftermarket everything bikes can scoot around with no more than a warning or stare down

OH & by the way, there is "NO" more 49 state bikes made:eek: they are all sold based on Federal & CARB regulations.

& as to smog regs, AZ is worse than Cali & have to have there M/C's smog ck'd :frown:

They haven't started that in Ca yet (& the big word is "YET").
