I didnt realize that. The difference must be increased import taxes.

Actually it's sales volume, more are sold here vs anywhere else !
    aka: sales by volume:usa2:

Congratulations on the 848, I'm undecided between the 1098 & the 848, as to they run in the same classes racing because of the increased CC's of the 848 took it out of club raciness Light Weight Twins, & LW Superbike classes.

Oh & Chesthing, it has HP more in line with the GSXR750 which is 20 more than the 600's plus, as to why it won't be allowed to race against the 600's

So there was a problem with my 848 delivery... The dealership got 2 bikes, one red one white. The white one was bought as a demo, so they can get demo credit from Ducati. They were going to sell the bike to me and just forge the mileage, but now it turns out that Ducati will not honor the demo credit if they dont show 750 on the odometer with the request. So now i had the option of being number 3 on the list to get mine, or get a red one. Well i didnt feel like waiting, and i didnt want a red 848, sooooo....

I called them today and I told them to prepare a red 1098 for me for pickup on wednesday!! They also have a yellow one, but my friend has a yellow 996 and 1098 in his garage, so I didnt want to have the same bike as him. Regardless, Ill have pix on wednesday! Its going to be 43 degrees here, so its just decent enough to ride it home!. CAN'T WAIT!!!!

^^^^^^ Ha Ha..... I can already see the posts now :

"Well the dealer had already sold the 1098 to another customer, so I ordered the 1098S" .............

"The 1098S was not the color I ordered, so instead of waiting I told him to get ready to deliver a 1098R" ...........

"The 1098R won't be ready for delivery for another 2 weeks, I was really bummed, but to my amazement the dealer just happened to have one of only 400 of these made, so next Tuesday I go pick it up ! "

    The Desmosedici RR

Actually, while i was there on monday filing out my buyer's order, the salesguy next to us was dealing with some guy that bought a 1098S, a hypermotard S and was "thinking" about maybe ordering a D16RR. I thought to myself "damn im facing a 300 a month payment and i think thats bad..."

But anyway, tomorrow at 9am im heading over to the dealer. Its supposed to be 33 degrees in the morning, and I cant find my Cold Weather Icon riding pants, OR my longjohns. I hope it wont be a repeat of last november, when I rode it home at 6pm, 29degrees and flurries in dickies, sneakers, a t shirt, a sweatshirt and MX gloves due to my lack of proper riding equipment or previous experience of cold as balls riding weather.

Sweet looking bikes - both of em. It's not about the price with those things, it's about having a Ducati at least once in your life. They're exotic and sexy and if you ride it for six months or a year and don't like it, sell the mfr and get something else. Who cares!

Congrats man. I have often stopped by my local Italian bike dealer and drooled over the MVs, Aprilias, and Ducs. I am hoping one day to buy a used MV F4 or Duc 1098s just to do it!

TX_VFR. Im from the Matawan/South Amboy/Old Bridge and work in Freehold. Looks like you lived way north of me. Jack Trebour Ducati/MV Augusta/APRILIA/TRIUMPH/SUZUKI is in that area i believe. I got lost in that area trying to find my way home from visiting that dealership, and somehow wound up next to Pocono Raceway a while later...

I got to the dealer at 9 am, was out by 1030 and rode the bike to my friend's house and parked her next to her sisters; his 1098 and 996. I took a few pix with my cell phone, but I didnt have a digital camera with me as I wasnt thinking this morning. I had to work 1-9 today, and I didnt get to snap pictures tonight, but ill be back at his house at around 12 ish, so after I ride for a few hours and show her off, clean her up a bit, ill have pix up around 4!

    Now for the ride impressions...

In keeping with the reccomended break in period, I did not go over 6000 RPM except one time when a trucker wasnt paying attention going south on RT. 1 in Edison, NJ. I punched it, and switched lanes, cut to the right and decided to get off the highway and onto a local road. The Edison/Brunswick(s)/Princeton area is full of back country farm roads, so theres a lot of straights and nice turns, many of which also go through the woods. Compared to the VFR, the bike feels a lot more natural in the turns, which is to say a lot because the VFR is a very capable bike in and of its own. It has plenty of power in the lower rev range, and Im actually affraid of punching it even when it is broken in, based on a: the feel of the bike with even soft acceleration and b: the spec sheet tells me it has around twice the torque of the VFR with a chunk of less weight. I've never done a wheelie on purpose, and common sense dictated to take it very easy on the throttle. Once i get used to it, ill probably try it a few times. I rode the hypermotard and it can do a power wheelie in 2nd gear. Im sure this bike is more than capable of doing the same.

Braking felt weird, because your body weight is a lot more over the handlebars, so it almost feels like a stoppie is imminent at every hard braking.

The dry clutch is amazing due to its practically digital actuation; its either engaged or not, with minimal slip. It took some getting used to on the ride to my friends house, with me almost doing a couple wheelies pulling from stoplights due to too much throttle with too quick clutch release. The wet clutch on the VFR felt a lot smoother... obviously due to actual slippage.

I was affraid that at 6'5", id be uncomfortable riding the 1098 for prolonged periods of time. After riding for about 45 minutes, i felt no new pains, and actually during the ride i felt more comfortable riding the bike than the VFR. Stopping at lights, however, proved to be hell. I could only imagine to what negative angle my spine bent, as it felt very uncomfortable to sit up on the bike, especially on a hill where I would have to hold the front brake to keep the bike from rolling, and at the same time look up to watch the light change green. While riding, the wind seemed to hit me just right and took much strain off my arms. The faster I rode, the better it felt. Speed in return for greater comfort? Count me in :)!

Overall, Im in love with the bike. This is my third bike, and I have been riding for about 2 years. I started on a 1982 CB650 junker that I bought for 250 dollars. It lasted about 2 months, and I put about 3000 miles on it before i sold it to a bike mechanic friend of mine for 400. He fixed it up and now his wife is learning to ride on it. I bought the VFR last november with 18,000 miles on it and turned it in today with 25K. It served me very well, but when I saw the 848 i fell in love with the white color and really wanted to have it.

As fate has it, however, I was truly meant to be with my red 1098 which I named Claudia Francesca after my close friend and ex HS girlfriend. If i ever get out of college debt and can afford the full carbon fiber bodypanel kit, the name 1098 CF will be fitting, i think. Anyway, Pix tomorrow. I promise!

Ahh, I know what area you are from.......probably not still there now, but there was a nice little establishment near you in Manville called Franks Chicken House that I happened to visit every now and then. lol

Jack Trebour Ducati is in Ledgewood, just a few miles away from where I lived in Parsippany. Incidently, in Ledgewood near the traffic circle there was another nice little place sort of like Franks called Smiles. Also probably not there anymore as we are talking about back in the 80's when I was there.

When you got lost after leaving the dealer, sounds like you hopped on Rt. 80 in Ledgewood, went through the Gap and wound up at PIR.

Insurance for full coverage for the year is 740 a year through Rider insurance in new jersey. Its funny, because my dad pays 800 for his VTX1300R.

Anyway, the photos are in my user gallery, as i do not know how to load them into the forum... no no i lie im too lazy to take the extra step at this time.

update to this post: i uploaded the pix to my gallery, but they arent there. Is there a wait period? Im confused.
