Ok, highbeam was working fine yesterday, and this morning after my ride into work, I was switching back to highbeam as the bike was still running because I ride with it on during the day, and both of the highbeams are not working. I check the voltage, and thet battery reads 13.6 or so when the bike is off, and up to a fairly steady max of ~14.25 when the bike is idling, and about ~14.16 when I bring the revs up. I checked the 20A headlight fuse, and of course it is ok (It would have to be I guess since the lowbeams work).

Anybody have any ideas? I am curious why "both" highbeams are gone at the same time. Is it possible a voltage spike killed them? Could it be the switch it itself? My bike has around 32,000 miles on it, and i doubt the headlights have been changed before as they usually last awhile. Oh, and my R/R was upgraded to the larger one before that I bought it. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I can see at least one damaged/burnt filament....now I am just wonder if it was just a coincidence that "both" highbeams went out at once, or maybe I just never noticed that I only had one highbeam on? I don't think so, because I am used to seeing my reflection on the back of a car, and checking the headlights.....I just don't feel great about replacing them if if they are just going to blow again. Also, why would just the highbeams blow if it was a surge....because I was using them at the time??

Oh, and I use my highbeams for 99% of my daytime riding, which is most of my riding, except for the early morning to work.

If the hi beams share a ground, when one blew it could have taken the other one out. I was just about to look at the electrical diagram but mine are for a superior 6th gen - j/k. Try pulling the bulb out and see what the voltage looks like at the socket. If its good I'd replace the bulbs, if its bad, start working your way back. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips Action. I appreciate it. Do you have any rough idea of what voltage I should be looking for at the socket?

Sounds like the switch could've done it. I had a simular thing happen, and I replaced the switch and hadn't had a problem since. I don't drive with my high beams on during the day, but maybe by doing that, it creates a lot of extra heat, and caused the bulbs to quite sooner than they would have. Good luck.
