Iconic acquired this bike as a non-running project so we could source some parts for a client’s bike that needed service work. We are passing it along in the hopes that someone else may need this to keep their F2 going or that someone else might want to bring it back to life!

Hey Bazza, I wound up buying it. I have a really nice 86 with no title so I really just bought it for the title. Thanks for posting it on here, otherwise I probably wouldn't have seen it!

Wow - congrats, James! Curious what the transport is going to be from coast to coast.

I got one recently from AZ that was around $1,400.....ouch!

The fact that this one only cost you $550 helps.

Congrats again - looks like a decent one to rebuild!

Yeah the transport sucks but I just considered it the cost of doing business! It's $1075 shipped to MD, I let Iconic Handle the shipping.

That's about what I figured. They do a good job though so there's that.

You know, they have a tank that came off a bike they did work on in their service bay - last time I saw it - it was sitting on the lift table in Steve's (The Professor's) station. In fact, he's the one that did the work on the bike your tank went to. The tank they removed was still there. I'm assuming it is not in very good condition - but the exterior looks OK. You may want to inquire and see if they will throw it in with the deal. It could be salvageable.

Well I got the VFR yesterday. The shipper called me in the morning and said he'd being dropping it off that evening. I asked about what time and he said he didn't know he'd get back to me when he was closer. I get a text from him about 7:00pm saying he had one more stop in PA then he'd be at my place. He dropped it off at 11:09pm! I quickly looked it over then realized I didn't have a title. I figured it would come with the bike so I texted the shipper about the title and he said he didn't have the title to it. I'm like great, so I emailed Iconic asking about the title. This is the response I got back:

    Hi James,
I'm reaching out about the 1986 Honda VFR700F2 Interceptor Project that you won through auction on Iconic.
I'm extremely sorry to inform you that there was a mistake in the listing: the bike actually does not come with a title. This was an oversight on my part. The California plate and recent registration tags gave me the impression that the bike had a title, when in fact it had not been provided to us.
I'm very sorry for this mistake and for the inconvenience it causes you.
We can help with securing a title for the bike through Tennessee. If you'd like to pursue that route, we'll do our best to help make the process as straightforward as possible.
Please let me know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed. Again, my sincere apologies for the oversight.
    Best regards,
    Matt

The one and only reason I bought the bike was for the title. I already have an 86 VFR with no title, I don't need another one! I emailed back that I would like to get the title through Tennessee, whatever that means. Unreal!

That is awful....what a RIDICULOUS mistake to make....wow!

I could get a Florida title for you if I had your VIN plate to stick on one of mine. I know trying to remove a VIN plate and re-attach may be a PITA, but keep it in mind, in case it helps. Then it would be a simple matter to sell you the bike via Internet.

I don't understand how any other state will be able to do this, including TN, without someone laying eyes on the VIN plate of the bike.

It's called a "VIN verification" process and has to be done along with a "Hold harmless" form filled out by the seller.

That's how we do it here, anyway.

    Keep us posted......and good luck!

Yeah, I'll believe it when it see as far as the TN title cars. Thanks for the offer with the VIN plate. If the TN title doesn't come through I might take you up on it!

    I'll keep you posted.

    Wow. Just... Wow.

The TN route does work. I don't know the exact details, but I have a friend who has done it thru a title agency.

Any agent that is using a VIN plate and not the VIN stamped into the frame to verify a bike should not have a job.

Seems like - under the circumstances - you'd be entitled to a full refund, if you wished to pursue it.

Also, wonder why you couldn't just do the TN title route on the bike you already had/have - and let Iconic have this one back?

Or....if you are able to get the title for one bike.....why couldn't you get a title now for BOTH bikes...if indeed there is a viable route for getting one?

Hey James....curious what kind of rig your bike was delivered in. Big trailer or what? Any pics? :) Thanks!

I know I'm like WTF! They even had some BS is the auction about how much it would cost to renew the registration in CA.

I'm thinking along the same lines as you Bazza. If I can get a TN title, get one for the VFR I have and let ICONIC have this one back!

From the above....looks like this is their VIN verification requirement:

    2. Verification of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) by a law enforcement officer or licensed
dealer. This can be a pencil tracing of the actual Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) plate or a statement
verifying the actual Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
