Man I don’t miss that but it is nice to have plenty of bikes. I’m down to 5 but I am riding more now. Took my 650 to Rock Store on Sunday …

Hmm, good question. Lets see.. Capt is up north, we are south so that doesn't make it easy. Tahoe? lol

We could ski in the winter and ride the Sierra's in the summer.

I am pulling apart the carb and this highlighted thing is where the choke cable goes into. It just spins without going in or out. How does the choke cable interact with that item? 092BC7C1-AE26-4468-A2D9-338070E74778.jpeg

Also, since I am disconnecting the cal can, do I need to access the air/fuel screw that they seal? Maybe I am not describing it right. I vaguely remember something about drilling a small aluminum cover off to access a set screw. Let me know if I am talking out my ass. Lol

Ah found it in the Hawk manual: pilot screw. image.jpg
    Is it this shiny cover?

12-1-17_057.JPG.87ea93e0a41ac78c6d965fef019506a3.JPG it might be the cable end stuck in place ? show cable end its a round cyinnder with a pointed end 2 or 3mm wide pushed by a spring, right ? ---same thing as hawk and others-- View attachment 105587 View attachment 105587 ------extract mix-scrrew and its small O-ring for cleaning--u might have to drill off the cover to acess the idle mix screw unless the carbs were cleaned sometime before--

I'm not sure how the cable came out without the plunger. Does the end of the cable that came out still have the cylinder on the end, or did the cable break?

Yes that cover comes out so you can adjust the pilot screw. And so you can remove it (with the spring, washer and o-ring) to properly clean the carbs, as sm correctly states of course. I drill a small hole in it so I can screw in a course thread screw then pull with some pliers. They usually come out pretty easy.
Edit: Just as the Service Manual describes

For less confusion, the bike did not come with carbs. These were off ebay. I will use the hawk manual to perform surgery. So to clarify those are the old choke bits still stuck in the carbs? I have the original choke cable in working condition so I will dig these parts out.
