....just a bit distracted with my other ride that's somewhat related to a VFR. I've been working on an 88 Honda Hawk GT NT650 that's not a 650 this summer. I just got it back on the road last week, What a cool fun bike!
They are cool and fun indeed. Nice mods. I always wanted one. Built one. Now have two. I presume it is somewhere around 700cc?
i thought a long pipe would be better tuned to a i-4 than a lower-reving twin maybe ? although the muffler sounds right, the pipe length maybe not tuned for 7500 rpm v-twin ?
Yes. Pretty sure it has been dyno proven that a short muffler makes (marginally?) more peak HP than a long one, with everything else being exactly the same on the same modified Hawk. There are more factors that come into play on a modified street Hawk than peak HP. It is a lower revving twin as you stated. Also, there is aesthetics and sound that are hard to quantify on a personal, subjective level. My Hawk BOOGIES, and sounds and looks great doing it (to me). Cheers dude!
Well, not this forum likely. Hawks and what they like are pretty unique. hawkgtforum? Oh yeah. A lot.
Well, now, there's M4s, not too long, not too short, but just right. I'm pretty lucky with this one, the engine, yes, is larger, has Ti rods, has better cams, heads have been cleaned up and the pistons have more POP. The transmission has been micro-polished, and as an extra, the water plumping has all been reworked to flow better it doesn't overheat. It was a pretty well-known twin in its day; it won a lot of twin races and was only 4 points out of taking the super twin class. So yeah, I'm stoked to have been in the right place, though there is a sad part to all this too.
