Nice job. That is a decent price for (hopefully) a quality pump. The K&L and TourMax, both of which are Mitsubishi, are over $100 now I think. And not offered in a 90 degree spigot configuration.

I recently installed a straight spigot Mitsu pump on the RC26 using some 90 degree brass fittings. But that bike has a non-stock coolant tank fitted so I had space for the extra hardware and tubing.

Thanks, Cap't. Yeah, I've also adapted the straight-tube pumps to the RC24/26, using 90° brass fittings…with the stock coolant bottle. I just had to shorten the brass fittings a bit on the pump side, which allowed the lines to just clear the bottle.
If you have part #s or sources for the K&L or Mitsubishi that would be helpful to some folks, I'm sure. I think the K&L is #18-5529, but I haven't seen one in awhile.

K&L pumps are Genuine Mitsubishi, just like OEM. So are Tourmax, they can be found on eBay.

Thanks, Joe....very nice tutorial, as always....and good to know about this replacement item.

    Couple questions......

    1. Are there symptoms of a fuel pump on the way out - or do they all of a sudden just die?

    2. Regarding the bypass for the FP relay......if you removed the bypass jumper and attached the actual relay....would this be a legitimate/effective method for testing a relay?

Thanks to anyone who wants to answer!

1: I have found they will usually present themselves 3 ways.
    I - Dead. Just dead.
    II - Weeping / Leaking
III - Constantly running (even when the bowls are full) when they come out of storage and then get better as they get used again. Could be that the pressure regulator is funky, but I have found it seems to be the beginning of the end, like the diaphragm is weak.

Some people have manipulated the arm that controls the shut off point on some troublesome pumps I think. The breaker points can be an issue too and are replaceable on some units. Typically for me, if a pump has gotten to that age, other issues start to happen too, like weeping.

2: Yes. If with a jumper wire everything seems to work normally. Just remember, the Fuel Cut Relay does not allow the pump to run unless the bike is being cranked or running. Not just when you turn the key on.

This is my work-around to the straight inlet/outlet Mitsu pumps. Thats a front coil mount off a 86, Don't know what side.

FYI: I just noticed on Joe's web page for this conversion the following:

    UPDATE: Not Recommended!
At 50 miles the pump began to seep fuel and very soon after the pump motor operated but no pumping action. Stick with K&L:

    :(

I'll ask him tomorrow for confirmation.
