You should be just fine, don't sweat it. I just tend to err on the rich side on my pilots, personal preference really. I am also very close to sea level where I do my tuning and evaluating. But I have taken my bikes to over 5K feet without touching anything with zero issues.

I just much prefer to dial in a pilot screw. When you start getting past 3 turns out, there is a lot less spring pressure ensuring the screw stays where it should be... installed in the carbs. Many times customers would come in complaining of shitty running to find their pilot screws on top of their crankcase below the carbs... most of them anyway. If I think I'm getting close to out that far, I will pull the springs and stretch them a touch. I actually usually do that anyway when I'm rebuilding carbs, as they are compressed from age too anyway.

All good to know. I like the idea of stretching the pilot screw spring a little. Partzilla just said that they should get the 38's from Honda Feb 6 and will ship after that. Insulators will be here on the 4th. I am going to go back to factory spec (2 1/2) turns on the pilots since I am at carb build 2.0 and shouldn't consider too much where I had them to get it to start and run.

I only have about 200 plus miles on this oil and filter, but I am going to change them this week, as that was the first oil in the bike after sitting full of gas for 9 years. LUCKILY the viscosity of the oil I pulled out looked pretty normal, and did not have that bacteria like smell for stuff growing in it. I owned some fishing boats on SF bay and was always getting animals growing in my diesel and crankcases. It looks and smells weird.

I road the Kawi Tractor in the desert today, It is 61 F here. Joyous it was to let some air out of the tires and kick up some dirt.

The 38 (edited) S's came yesterday. I have them in and have buttoned up the float bowls after stablishing the correct order for the highs, more accurate bench balance, float level measure set correctly, wiring out starter jets, cleaning out float valve baskets, blowing everything out, setting pilots to factory. I think I am ready to put them back on the bike. I am being super cautious with the rubber insulators. I am going to watch carefully how much I clamp them. I think I had them way too clampy, after discovering some air leaks. These CMS insulators from Everett seem pretty squishy and delicate, not sure there is any other sources?

    I have been looking for
16219-KE7-010 Found the insulator bands on Amazon 10.99 ea, yikes. $80.00 for band clamps! If anyone has another resource I would appreciate a heads up.

Also if I am missing anything feel free to hit me!

    Wavey.

Think it will run a little better?

Carbs Back on. Started right off idled at about 1000 with no choke warmed up for two minutes set idle to 1200 plus minus. Throttle response is super noticeably better. May take her out before it starts to rain...

I ordered and installed 38s. It is now quite quick off the line from a stop. Once it warmed up I had to back the idle down a 16th of a turn. But other than that it was damn fun. It litterally started up like it had not had the gas drained. I used the choke for about 2 seconds then it idled at 1000 cold with no choke.

I thank all contributors, I couldn't have done it with out the expertise of all that helped be along the way.

    Thanks

WaveyDavey. I will provide a more in depth ride report when the rain stops again. We don't get much of this where I live so gotta take the wet while we can.

This is kinda Random but pertaining to the 500, I am curious as to what tire rear size will fit the rim, and swing arm clearances etc and provide the most tire patch on the road when ridden "assertively" through corners. I am not going to the track and not that interested in dangling at my stage in life, but I would like to know what experience is out there. One of my considerations here in my home in the desert is that the roads ain't good!

120/80-18 isn't stock, but it is what I used based on recommendations here, and it's the size I would recommend having used it. There are no clearance issues with it.

Another recommendation I've gotten here and generally used for tires is www.americanmototire.com. Though if you've got somewhere that's going to throw in mounting to offset costs and/or frustration, consider that.

Nice link CD (ColdDevil)! The bike has a Battlax rear now, that I need to replace, I think I will budget for a new of the same, only of the 120/80 version. I should have asked this question before a bought the Kenda 110/90 to put on. The Kenda feels pretty good on the bike. Probably grind it around a little bit this spring before I pull the trigger on a new tire.

    Thanks,

I am just doing some research into aftermarket exhaust for my 500, and am wondering if anyone has put together a setup using Ebay mid pipes to come from the OEM Collector? I am looking to give the silencers when I get them (if I get them) a lift as they move from front to back. If there is someone who has used an aftermarket mid pipe link, please let me know what you used and if possible a PNID.

I have a YSS shock on the way prices on these were changing daily. I am kind dreading that project, but it has to happen.

    Thanks,

    WD

This can be filed under random. I am looking for a left side tank wing and honda decal for my 500(86) I am curious if the Wing and Honda config is consistant with the ones on the 1000 of the same year? Also has anyone ever purchased from the people on this link. I don't want to waste fitty bucks on buying this whole collection of 1000 decals if they aren't the same as what I have on my 500. This is just an interim patch as I may attempt a full exterior tank resto? No time soon.

    Big Wave Dave.
