I had the high speeds installed in the wrong place, had 3 and 4 flipped! Ouch. I was not in a very good place when I did these. Should have taken the Capt.s advice then. Something like box it up and wait til you are settled in the new place! Or similar.

if the starter jets are clear, your wire should go in about 33mm. placing a plastic tube that fits tightly and filling it about 1" with your favorite solvent helps clear clogs. ultrasonic cleaners are good, but i never consider a jet clean and fully open until after ive wire-probed it.

the starter jet tube clogs about 10mm in, the level where fuel sits, and simply trying to force a wire in to clear it usually doesnt work well. instead, the wire needs to peck, peck, peck at the obstruction.

it makes blasting it with air ez, and by sucking on the tube, air flow can be confirmed or not.

I did get the order changed to #38s. Partzilla only had 3 in stock so hopping they can get the 4th from Honda, they said it would only take an extra couple of days to ship. I couldn't find them anywhere else? I did get all of the Starters cleared. I checked all of the pilots with Gumout and air, all are good, I had put new ones with new orings in back in November. Now I am waiting for insulators, and low speeds before putting them back on the bike. Can't wait to see what happens with all of this jetting corrected! It actually sounded pretty smooth to my ear before, just not very good low rpm power?

    nice trick thanks!

Thats because your issues were primarily in areas that are responsible for low RPM performance. As soon as you get more than a quarter throttle, those areas make less of a difference, it's the needles and mains.

    Good job.

I know you already ordered them, but bookmark this page for next time you're struggling to find a jet. https://jetsrus.com/a_jet_kit_street/honda_500_VF500F.html

I'm surprised you even had that bike running well enough to ride it in its previous state. The changes and work you're putting in is going to make it feel awesome.

    Jets R Us

Is where I buy all of my jets, unless I can filter eBay down to a better deal (including shipping) on OEM Honda jets listed by part number to ensure they are correct.

A tip on finding alternative sized Honda jets. Change the numbers in the part number to the jet you need.

    JET, SLOW (#38): 99103-437-0380 (99103-MV9-0380)

    to 99103-437-0400

Doesn't work every time, but has gotten me to some great deals on the jet I want. Also, be sure to search both the old part # and superceded part #. NOS will be under the old part #, and again can lead to a good deal on what may seem like obscure inventory to somebody.

    Cheers!

Holy Crap Cool sight! I do wish I had known. So do you think the difference between 38 and 40 would be pretty noticeable? I am already moving from 35s to 38s?

38s may be better given your altitude. My vote is run the 38s.

I agree. I meant to make my example 35 to 38.

BUT... you could easily compensate #40 with the pilot screws if needed.

If, and this is a big if... if say I install some slip on exhaust, like a Supertrapp in theory with 38s installed I should be able to tune the for the pipes with the pilot screws as well correct or not? I don't think this will happen for a while, I am at risk of being discovered by the boss now, if the bike suddenly got louder the cat would be out of the bag! I have had several Supertrapps on various bikes and have been able to "Disc" tune them without much impact to jetting.
