Not a view you get everyday. You are looking through the bottom end of the engine with the other case off. Hahaha

Well... I thought I was gonna get something done tonite. Not looking promising. But I did get something done last night, but not in my shop. Buddy has Garage Night on most Wednesdays. Bring a project. Or not. Bring food. Or not.

He recently got permanently loaned some shop machinery. Lathe and mill, he had a good size drill press.

    signal-2025-01-15-23-03-27-283.jpg

So I had a little project, some pickled jalapenos and some ciders. I am modding another F2 rear brake caliper for the parts that came off the RC26 and are getting donated to one of the 86 VFRs, Chrissy. The Guest / Rain bike.

    PXL_20250131_022440724.jpg

Cut off and shaped the bracket at work. Drilled and tapped at Garage Night. My friend Scot smoked a Brisket that day, so sliders on Kings Hawaiian rolls and pickled Jalapenos. Did not suck.

This is pretty much the same version I just did for the RC26-II upgrade.

    PXL_20250128_015817604.jpg

Works great. I will update the "Rear brake options for RC24/26 wheel swaps" sticky on this version.

No shit. I forgot to take a picture of the new storage / charging cabinet he made since that pic. Even more product than that.

I probably have 20-30 Ryobi tools. I think I use the Impact Driver the most. Then the air inflator. I also have a portable fan! :)

Ryobi is fine for most handy men for their shops. I had a Ryobi biscuit joiner that lasted me many years until one of the return springs for the base plate....well...sprung. I replaced it with a Makita cordless.

All Ryobi here for decades, too. I can't remember a failure for any of them, including the batteries.

I use Ryobis because I'm cheap and practical. Some of their stuff is awesome, some is just okay, a couple near worthless.

However, one item I can absolutely, 100% endorse is the ergonomic grip Vessel JIS manual impact driver. I took one look at these two bearing retainer screws and knew it was going to be a problem. I threw a towel over the case half while I waited for the Vessel to arrive since I'd be tempted to pick at the screws with substandard tools.

A lot of praying, torching, sweating, more praying, and hammering. They finally popped out without completely destroying the heads.

VESSEL impact driver No.240001. Highly recommend.

    Wheeeewwww!

    $44 on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001WHKSS4?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

It's one of those things where I buy the cheap Harbor Freight tool at first to know if I'll use it, then buy the good one after. Well, cheaping out on a good impact JIS is something I never should have done. It just causes more pain and frustration. I'm deep into a "tooling up" phase right now to do some engine rebuilds and my wallet is getting pretty sad, but I prefer to learn how these things work and know I can eventually do it. Even if it would be cheaper for me to have just bought a built engine.

That looks like a nice impact driver. Mine is old school and works nearly every time. I did not work on the timing cover but that is a first.

I here you on the tooling up. Got a new lower box last year and I am going in for a new set of Snap on sockets. Tired of my 20yr old craftsman that keep losing the bit and occasionally stripping out a socket head cap screw.

    Jelly on the mini lathe...grrrr

    Vessell makes great stuff.

My Impact Driver is Craftsman from...when I was a teen, still in the same crappy yellowed blister pack!

I have and use 2 Ryobi cordless screwdrivers. Different designs but both do the same thing. They see a LOT of action!

In addition to the obvious function....they work great if you're looking for low speed cleaning applications using these....

This is actually what he wrote (I added the underline):
