You basically have no options. TBR & Erion used to make them but cancelled them due to lack of demand.

I've heard a company or two in the UK make them but I don't recall the names. Rumor has it they cost like 1000UK LBS. That works out to $2067 at today's exchange rate.

    KC-10 FE out...

Motad exhaust makes headers and like KC-10 FE said they are from the UK. Last I heard you could get them in the US from these guys:

    Customer Support - Annitori Distributing
    1-888-963-1212
    www.Annitori.com
    info@Annitori.com

    Micron Exhausts
    Motad Exhausts
    Hyperpro Suspension
    CRD Off Road
    Zard Italy Exhausts

I think they were about $700 plus shipping.

Get some '99 stock headers. No cat and bigger diameter pipes. Better flow in mid-to-high rpm

Yes, from what I heard the 99 stock headers will bolt right up. The problem is usually finding a decent set used. They usually go pretty fast on flea bay.

You could always buy 98-99 headers new from someplace like bikebandit.com. I think all parts ordered together would be about $625-$630. Not a cheap mod to say the least.

i have the 99's and they did bolt right up with no issues. i personally dont think they would be worth the $600+ price of new, but you can catch them used for around $350.00

I don't think they are worth the 600 plus dollars either. I would only do that if you just get tired of waiting for some decent used ones to show up somewhere. I've been looking for some time now and making a s##tload of calls looking for them with no luck. The problem is that there are so many 6th gen. VFR owners looking for them to get rid of their cats.

Motad headers are SS and the U.S. distributor is selling for around $700. So if money isn't an issue and you're looking for better looking headers than the stock, might want to look into Motad. But with Motads and aftermarket exhaust, mod is going to be very expensive ($1300-$1700).

Couldn't you just cut the cat off and then weld a straight pipe into the system? I'd think that would be the cheapest way to go, if it's even possible.

I think I remember someone on another post trying to do the cut and weld. He ran into a problem getting a good fit from the added straight pipe. I guess if you have the proper tools (or know someone who does) it could be done if you can find the right parts.

Others have done the cat gutting too, which sounds pretty difficult. But it can be done-I've seen pics of the process.

The way the pipes converge in to the cat it's hard to weld a staright pipe in. The cheapest option is to just cut the top off the cat, gut it, and weld the top back on. I'm waiting until I get a power commander then I'll either gut mine or find a different set of pipes.

I have the Motads, Jet Hot coated, and the Staintunes. I got the Motads I think for in the high $500 range, just seemed to make more sense then buy the 99s new for about the same, or used 99s for less and not be sure of their condition until they arrived.

All that super light stainless steel means a extra cookie for me every day after lunch is balanced out! ;-)

I looked into the Motads, but all the pipe are stock diameter, there will be no performance gains. I guess the advantage is that they are stainless and may last longer. Me? I have a '98 and, for the someday column will get me the stock headers Jet-Hot coated, Heat wrap the upper part of the headers and call it a day. Or not,... I'm in no hurry to take my ride apart again since it was down so long. There wouldnt be a performance gain. (The upper pipes are already heat wrapped).

How do you like the Motads Spike? I've been eyeballing those pipes for a while. I've found a little buyer feed back on the net, but what's your take on "fit and finish"?

Thanks for the replys On all of the header advice. I think the best thing to do is just gut out the cat. It does have a good straight shoot at the slip on down pip. Maybe a small pri-bar and a shop vac would do the job. It would also sound a little healther too!!!!

    Here's the real deal:

    My bike, 2003 VFRA.
I have the Motad header for the 98-99 VFR installed on my bike.
These headers come with no cat and no O2 sensor holes.
They have a larger diameter than the stock gen6 header.
    They bolt right up.
No center stand bumper. (I removed my center stand)

Go to http://www.annitori.com/ to see the pipes. They list for $880 (i think) but give them a call. They give a discount for members of this site. I paid $670.

I have the Staintunes, PCIII, all emission controls removed and think they are well worth the cash.

    HOPE THIS HELPS.

Any semi-skilled muffler shop will cut out the cat and flange in a straight pipe for a couple hundred bucks or less. Hawthorne Muffler in the South Bay in SOCAL did mine for $150. But then again I've got an '06 and I don't know if its true or not but I heard that I have to worry about passing smog, so I wanted to be able to switch back and fourth. On your '02 you can just delete the cat all together.
