    Hi everyone,

Over the winter I'd like to try to shine up the ol' 5th-gen a bit, she has all the usual little scuffs & stone dings & weather marks of any well-enjoyed 27-year-old machine. I've ordered a factory-black paint pen to fill in a couple scratches, and would like to really take my time and make her fairings smooth again. So...

For folks in the EU (I specify that becuz different brands & chemicals are sometimes specific to regions), can anyone recommend a good polishing compound, and/or other products for hand application?

    Thanks!

I use this in the States and am very happy. Enough to remove blemishes, but not so harsh that it gets away from you. I use it by hand and with an orbital.

To get scuffs out, I have also used Novus #2 plastic polish for paint.... good for small areas, put some on a microfiber towel and use elbow grease. If you have paint build-up in cracks, it may end up being above the finish surface, just be aware of it, use sparingly, build in layers with a fine brush or applicator. Then best leave it alone, cuz if above the surface or beyond the crack, you'll have to sand it down level to the surface....

If there's a crack behind the surface, ie, through the part, best strengthen that up with some Permatex plastic epoxy spread on either side of the crack..

I have used this on my trucks and bikes for years. It i great for removing very light scratches and swirls. But you need to know, it does strip down any wax or finish you may have on the paint. Immediate follow-up with Meguiar's yellow wax is a very good idea. That stuff is very easy to apply. Wife on and wipe off. It also leaves a very tough and hard protective layer of carnauba wax on your painted surface.

If you are going to really clean up the paint on your bike, following the instructions, I would give the bike's paint a ceramic coating. A lot of work is involved in doing so, but the water would bead off ceramic coating for well over 6 years. I had my 2018 GMC ceramic coated when it was new in 2018. When I traded it off last September, the water was still readily beading off that surface. But the product is fairly expensive. A small bottle goes a long way but it is about $300.00 a bottle now. Tgat was enough product to do that GMC Sierra Crew Cab with left overs.

I like detailing work and I have full cabinet of stuff to fool with. (Too much)
The Meguires Fine/Medium/Heavy cut cleaners are great if your paint is really need of work.
I like as a tryout Meguires Ultimate compound followed by the Ultimate Polish. Then decide next.
Possibly do a claybar work. If skiping that go to the finish topper, as Randy mentioned, Ceramics are great...
I foole around too much so recently tried ...pretty awesome stuff

Its also good solo or again on top of any wax/sealant/ceramic.

There 50 ways to do it, but these are my current favorites.

Klasse is made in Germany, you should be able to find in the UK. Before the internet, I could only find it at Mercedes and Porsche dealers.
Been using it since the mid 80's. The red container is the All-In-One Cleaner, Polish, Acrylic Protection, while the grey container is High Gloss Sealant. I've only ever used them with hand application.
    Here's a little "how to use" https://guidetodetailing.com/detailing-tools-guides/klasse-car-wax-guide/
    Happy polishing!
