Updated the ST1100

Nice ST Cap... those are fantastic motorcycles. My long distance ride is a 2001 CBR1100XX...

Goddammit... that is the XX I want. Fucking love that color on that bike. Trying to convince my buddy who is fairly tall and big he needs one in his life. Think it would be a great Sport / (occasional) Tour for him. He also has an ST1100.

 

They are nice and fuckin FAST!!

 

I know, I've ridden a few. I thought they felt like a large 1998 VFR as far as ergos and handling. A little more deliberate in handling of course, but man I loved it. Warp Speed 11 is nice too.

 

I installed some risers and lowered the pegs ,,,, perfect fit after that. And yes… feels like a large VFR.

There was a very nice red one for sale around here last year. Price wasn't stupid, but it was all the dough. Shoulda just bought it, but I really didn't need it. It's def easier to tell the wife about another VFR than a completely different, big red missile.

She just shakes her head... "My god dude. You got a problem."

The other night we were riding to dinner and she asked which bike are we taking.

"Ummmm... the ST?"

"Oh I thought we might take the VF1000R"

"The last time we rode the 1000R 2-up, I don't remember it being that enjoyable for either of us"

Now.... 20+ years ago on a sweet mountain road... it was very enjoyable.

 

Cool ST Captain. This pic (if the upload works) is my winter project. Got it a couple months ago cheap "as is". 53,000 miles looks like it was indoors and not abused. No linked brakes or traction control crap. Has the usual issues of a 30 year old bike. Carbs,brakes etc. Did have a bad water leak that turned out to be a cracked coolant hose connector under the carbs feeding the right cylinder head. After the carbs and cooling system refresh the bike runs good and seems to have good bones. So now its an all out service and bring this back to life for another 50K miles.

For now I have one question for you. Windshield on your ST. Is that a Gusstofsen?

The shield is a Clear View Sport Shield (taller version). It looks great and is good for solo work when I'm being sportier. It doesn't deflect much, very much a "sport" shield. Sucks ass 2-up.

My "touring" shield is a Rifle. They are straight with no flip up curve at the top. I custom cut / shaped it so I'm looking right over it during normal riding. Can't stand looking thru a windshield. It is perfect 2-up with no buffeting and the air flow just grazes the tops of out helmets and vents.
