So I did a rebuild on this a year ago, hasn't been tested until today. Long story. I followed the Daugherty Motorsports description seemed go okay. Of course it would have been better if it didn't leak! The assembly doesn't seem to be leaking where I would have expected it to, i.e. the diaphram side where I did the work. I am only diddling with this now as I await part to come for another process on the bike. Is there an more simplified approach to the petcock that could be shared?

    See the drip.

    Gratitude to all! -----Wavey Davey

There is a rubber packing gasket behind the riveted cover/selector knob.

    Thanks,

I just saw these. I think I ordered a set but they are lost somewhere in the "Move the Shop" pile. I find the previous order I will have spares!

    Thanks again.

Make sure it is for 1986. 84/85 are more common and available, but are a different size.

They are claimed to be for 86. We shall see. I pretty sure I can make one in a pinch.

I got my petcock rebuilt with new valve 4 hole grommet and oring on the valve. It doesn't leak from that location any longer. Though in fiddling with it I during leak testing I can not seem to get it to shut off. I have also done the Daugherty Motosports version of making it non vaccum required. I am not finding any definitive data that relates to 86s directly. I really just want it to turn off and on. Oh and the kit I ordered from Ebay , packing gasket grommet fit perfectly.

How did the face that contacts the 4 holes look? Any pitting or corrosion?

The DM mod doesn't affect it's ability to turn off and on. It just doesn't require vacuum to flow after turning it to "on".

I feel quite stupid I put it back together incorrectly. I had the thin little delrin slide washer on the wrong side of valve . It was creating a space between the rubber 4 way packing and the stop. Sorry to waste so much of your time. I do appreciate what you have provided to learn from. It just seemed to me that that spacer was there to provide a little lubricant for the scudgy rubber to slide on. With everything put back to gether it is holding fluid. but Really hard to turn. I did use a tiny silicone grease when assembling. I am going to let it sit over night.

    Thanks again Capt. 80's et.al.

There are 2 washers under that cover.

A flat one and a wave one

I had the wavey one in the right place. I didn't think that the valve would turn without something slippery in there to help it, like that plastic washer. The valve is really hard to turn with out the petcock installed in the tank. No leakage yet!
