I know... a MILLION versions of this same pic in this thread. But looking pretty damn good for a 50K mile ex daily commuter motor and chassis.

Rolled it outside and heat cycled the exhaust with new oil and coolant. I pre-cure exhausts with a propane torch on the inside while it's still hanging after paint. GREATLY improves the durability for handling and mounting. When the clamps slide down during install they don't leave any marks.

Honestly I don’t get tired of looking at a well built and clean bike. All the electrical is clean and tidy. Nice job Cap…

Yea, my first thought was that was one of the more unnecessary apologies I've ever heard in my life. Holy moly that thing looks clean.

Back together just in time for the end of Summer. Rode to work today.

    PXL_20240912_154000591.jpg

Runs great, definitely crisper after getting all of the loose valve lash adjusted out. I also modified the intake snorkels a bit, reducing them back to a more forward facing, larger inlet size instead of facing each other behind the steering head. I dremeled some nice smooth bell mouths into the new ends too.

Brakes are awesome and they're not even completely bedded into each other yet. Oh, and the new wheel and front tire feels great too. The used tire I started with after the first wheel swap was not great to being with, so big improvement.

The red fender is a place holder while I respray the white one. The reds do not match nearly as good in person as this pic would suggest. The bike is pretty orange from age and the red is from a 1991 VFR. But it will work for now.

    Very happy!

    Well, shit...

    PXL_20240915_002204143.jpg

Still have an oil leak. Couple years ago I had this all apart and replaced everything. Well, one of the big c/s oil seals was not right, and I fucking knew it at the time, but stupidly proceeded anyway. It was supposedly the correct superceded part # and was the right dimensions, BUT it was not veined, which is apparently critical in this application.

Everything scraped and the incorrect oil seals removed. I sourced the original part # oil seals for both.

    oil seal.jpg

So... 2 ea gaskets and 2 ea both big oil seals on the way. The VF1000F is next and takes the same parts. The F will get a new clutch rod and shift shaft seal as well like this R did.

Not a super fun job. Access is pretty bad. Remove frame member and water pump. At least the gasket was A LOT easier to scrape this time. The original baked on one took me nearly 3 hours. It's set so far back getting a good angle to scrape is very hard.

Yes... a wee bit of bourbon on ice, some Van Fucking Halen and a beer back. The last time my buddy was over in the shop and we were watching the Seahawks... well, he was.

Sorry for the slight thread drift......

My Mom, born in Portland, grew up in Seattle before leaving to join the Navy in '44.

We just lost her on Wednesday....made it to 101 and a half years old.

Funeral is Tuesday. Please make a toast to her fellas.....she was an amazing lady...and a lifelong Seahawks fan!

I have that same problem some times. I push forward knowing I didn't do it right. Fack it pisses me off when it proves wrong.

Just popped a fresh one open for your Mom. Sorry for your loss.

Absolutely will. My Grandmother made it to 99 before passing earlier this year and still had her wits. Eyesight and hearing... not so much. While it is sad, there is also some celebration for a long, loved life.
