I'm glad that you're back at it and having fun. I hope that it works out for you.

I tried a Chinese one on the CB-1 and it croaked pretty early. I could get it to run if I keep tapping it to get me home. I ended up with another Honda pump that I modified to fit the CB-1 and never looked back.

1987 is only 2 or 3 years newer than the one that went bad. How many miles on the bike it came off of?

But if it's good and allows you to fiddle around with fitment without breaking the bank this round, sure.

Headed in that same direction myself, bmart!

For now I'm just trying to isolate what my engine running problem is.

If it was indeed a bad fuel pump, even a aftermarket pump if temporarily used, can serve as a diagnostic tool.

Which brings me to my update this morning.....

    ===========

Happy Hump Day, my friends! :)

This morning I wanted to plug in my other fuel pump that came from my spares that I had bench tested to see if it worked or not. I did so and nothing. Then I started looking at where I plugged the fuel pump into and lo and behold last night I had inadvertently plugged it into the fuel sender receptacle! Dumb mistake but probably due to working on it at a late hour after a long day already and under rather humid and warm conditions. The brain kinda slows down a little for me when this happens.

So a fresh look at everything this morning really helped (as it always does!)

I plugged the fuel pump into the correct receptacle and violla! She ran and then stopped, after what I assumed was the carb bowls filling up. I unplugged it and ran the bike a little to lower the fuel level in the bowls......then shut it down......plugged the pump back in...key on only.......and she ran again and then shut off - which is what should be happening.

Then I ran the bike for a while and it ran great! Good idle....good smooth acceleration......zero running issues that I could tell.

So the next step will be a test ride.

    Sometimes it's the little things.......;)

We obviously both like where we live. I will take our usually mild winters over guaranteed oppressive heat and humidity every time.

They are hard to find, but adapting the VF1000F/R fuel pump/reg-rect plate might be a slick option, as it is lay down configuration.

I think right now I just want the bike to run well enough to know everything is functioning.....so I can drive it over to my storage unit to await a cooler time of year to get back at it.

I still have one more RC26 to pull out of my side yard storage and get up on my lift table for whatever it will need to get going again. It's the 2nd Blue '87 I bought - sold to me with a non-functioning gas cap.

But I am taking notes on the tips you have provided and at some point will re-address the fuel pump configs on this and probably my other RC15's.

You know, that '83 Euro I bought that was bought new in Germany and then raced it's first year by the seller...that had the starter go bad not long ago. When I bought it - the seller said he had parked several years prior because the fuel pump had gone out. So not the first time I've been exposed to the situation on this model.

Good stuff - thank you, Capt!

I have been running a Facet solid state "cube" fuel pump for about ten years after being stranded multiple times by mechanical fuel pumps.
I also use a regular automotive relay for the fuel cut relay.

    Good evening fellow riders!

Well....the test ride with the VF750 didn't quite go as planned. I suspect that fuel pump is still the issue. Decided to await delivery of the one from eBay and try again.

Kinda funny - we had a light rain when I when out and she almost stranded me a couple blocks down the road but ultimately I was able to limp home. I don't normally like to go out when it's raining but this was a very light rain and I was determined to get that test ride in. Imagine pushing your bike home in the rain!

    Anyway.

To work off some of my frustration I decided to dig into the covered storage in my side yard for the Blue '87 RC26 I mentioned. I also have the Rambo Yamaha next to it. Got both of them uncovered and will try to roll them out tomorrow. I aired all 4 tires up this evening so the only hang up could be the brakes grabbing. Yamaha should be OK but the Blue bike....well we'll see. It's been sitting for about 4 years covered with a tarp and under a metal roof storage area. Some surface corrosion I will have to deal with but need to get her running first.

I will be starting a new thread on this bike so stay tuned.

Should also have an update by next week on the VF750 fuel pump and will update as appropriate.

Once again thanks for all the great ideas and information! :)

The other FP arrived today - the one from an '87 CBR600 for ~$20. Larger diameter inlet and outlet pipes.

So I'm looking at fuel line on eBay and saw this on one item's feedback comments section....thought it was pretty funny......

Fits the tank, petcock, and fuel inlet on my Honda 450R / 450F with Baja kit. Feels like a quality product. Also came with in-line filters and 10 clamps for all the fuel line. Came with Repent for your sins cards as well. Don't have time to do that tho because I have to fix my bike. Kidding of course. I do have time. But what and whose version of Jesus or God do I confess to?

No offense to anyone - ;)
