Valve covers on.jpg Exhaust pipes on, Valves lash checked again and valve covers on. I pored oil in the top end friction points and buttoned it up. I'm wondering if I should have waited until I spin it to make sure the oil pump is suppling the top end. Should I do that first ? I suppose I can spin the crank with a battery connected to the starter.

Slightly loosen one of the oil line bolts on the head when you crank it and you'll know.

I'm getting oil supply to the top end now. I ended up poring about 6oz of oil into the rear supply banjo with a tiny tube I had. Took an hour for it to filter it down. Waiting on o-rings for the carb float bowls before I mount the carbs.

Do you run GP shift pattern? 1 up, 5 down?

It can be changed easily. I'd like to try it.

Well it really won't matter if I can't get these rear carbs to stop leaking. I confirmed the the valve and seat stop the flow. I raised the float height to 7mm. I put new float bowl gaskets Captain-80 suggested ordering. BTW they're great. Thanks for the source. It still leaks from both rear float bowl covers. I see no other gas leaks except there. I'm out of ideas except to order floats, float bowl covers, or god forbid carbs.

Are you ABSOLUTELY sure it is the bowls leaking? And not a fuel tube above them?

If the floats don't have fuel in them, then they are fine. You can switch locations of the bowls themselves also to rule out them, but that's is very likely not the problem either.

    Oh.... one other thing...

Are you checking your float heights with the carbs completely flipped over on a bench? You have to rotate the carbs in a manner that the float is hanging and rotate a little more to where the float tab just contacts the spring loaded button on the float valve WITHOUT compressing it. You will get wrong measurements and heights if you are not.

Yes I'm bench testing and if I'm not mistaken adjusting your way Capt would make the float height lower.

floats never go bad (maybe sum idiot could destroy the tab), and new ones will need adjustment. did you recently install new needles and seats ?

Yes I have new ones. I've tried the old ones and even swapped the needles and seats from the front carbs. No difference.

Maybe check the float bowls for integrity? I would think it's a worn o-ring in the fuel delivery circuit...

Whether it affects your problem in this instance or not, it's not "my" way, it's the way you do it.

Yes I know it's the right way and I've worked on many carbs doing it the right way. I'm sorry I used that phrase. I meant no disrespect.
