I'm not sure it's a steal, but used bike prices have gone bananas so who knows. That being said, this is one of the better looking examples I think that have been posted here recently. Not an outlandish price. If the tank is in decent condition, might be a good one for someone. You could probably hop right on that one and ride.

Shoot, I better make sure my 500 is ready to ride by Sunday for some vintage show I registered it in. I hadn't ridden a motorcycle this since my little crash at Pittsburgh since I didn't want to aggravate my wrist anymore before the next race round. Should be good to go now.

    condition: NOT excellent

    NOT a "steal"

Corrosion issues and a dented tank, among others. If you want the run down, I will, but I'll be nit-picking a stranger's bike again with little positive to say.

The "Condition: Excellent" was really the only part I took big issue with. I think anything actually nice is going to cost you $3,500 or more likely $5,000. Most bikes that run and have a title are pretty much $1,000 as the floor.

For $1,500 + $1000 I think you can get something rideable. And then another $1,500 at least to make it nice if you care enough to.

Maybe I was just impressed it wasn't listed for $3,500 in the first place.

It’s worth whatever someone will pay for it.. for guys like us that know the true meaning of restoration and the amount of hours and headaches finding parts it’s overpriced.
I’ve heard it all … “ dude you know how to work on these bikes so it’s a piece of cake for you”
6 months later we are in the middle of “ the piece of cake” project.

That said … I do like the feeling of getting these bikes looking and running great

This is where I'm stuck on my VFR700 project. It sounds like it's running great, though I haven't ridden it yet. Everything mechanically seems ready to go. But the fairings are a mess. I just received a huge single piece rear fairing from Airtech, but I don't have the slightest clue what to do with it since it's not going to mount the same way as OEM. Like, there's no studs.

Once it gets to the "looking great" part.. I crumble.

It's OK for folks to have different opinions, perceptions, and standards.

That's what makes the world go round.

IMHO and as I've stated on here before.....getting a bike with all it's fairings in good condition is worth $1K in value.

I had three paragraphs typed out... {delete}.

good to fair isn't excellent. Don't care how old it is. excellent is excellent. There is no sliding scale.

    I agree
If you advertise as excellent… it better be.

    @Colddevil

Post some pics in your thread. Let's get a look and come up with some ideas. You can do it.

Or buy bluroad's tail, paint everything Krylon Satin Black or White, get the godamn thing on the road and save the cool fucking tail when you put a real paint job on.

Another factor I consider is market value. Although I've yet to sell a single one of my motorcycle collection....at some point I will. So what is the potential of a particular bike that is listed for sale?

From Bring a Trailer....8 listings of completed VF500F auctions that range from $3,200 to $8,800:

    https://bringatrailer.com/search/?s=honda+vf500f

You can object that the adjective "Excellent" is used in a listing - heck you can object to all kinds of things.

But bottom line for an interested buyer is what you are getting for the price. That's what I look at anyway......

No - The fairings are not that nice, tank is dented.
No - So you would pay $500 for titled bare frame with a keyed ignition?
No - You would pay $1500 for a bike that ran but had zero bodywork or lights? That's called a spare engine and carbs.
No - Don't even know what that means
No - It can be pulled from a lake and be OEM
Can't argue cuz you didn't put an unrealistic number

Not saying it isn't worth 1500 to somebody, but it isn't excellent, it's not even good, and it isn't anywhere near $3500+
