If you ever woke up during the night and walked across the room and stepped on one of those leggos, you would know pain. Far as the slurry I make, I do it once twice a year if that. Had good results with it, I am used to wearing hazmat suits and full respirators, we have sanding rooms with large tables with heppa filters underneath, pro level stuff, I still wear a mask though. Thanks for your concern

I got the rear wheel balanced. Just needed an inch and a half socket with two layers of masking tape. That was just snug enough. Surprised me that it needed 1.25 oz to balance. In hindsight would like to have checked the wheel for balance without the tire oh well.

I painted the rear subframe, sorry no pics yet. Spent some time rebuilding the clutch master, installed a new SS braided clutch line and bled that system. Then I reinstalled the the front brakes that I rebuilt a few weeks ago, filled and bled those.
Milestone- it's finally time to start putting parts back ON the bike!
New grips are always nice :) Installed the front subframe that I painted last weekend.

    Grrrrr!!!!!
Stuck. Soaked for days with penetrating lube, many whacks with a large persuasion device, and now failed with a HF puller.

Now torch heat, under pressure, while also persuading it.

Might to replace some seals or any bearings that have a rubber seal.

I've only had 4 (5?) apart. 2 Hawks, at least 2 VFRs. No issues.

For those following the score, the 34 year old rust weld = 1, Harbor Freight puller = 0.
Emptied a bottle of mapp gas on it and applied a little too much force
    :(
Going to step up to a hydraulic gear puller and acetylene torch
Dammit I wanted to have this bike on the road by now!

Lots of stuff to do lately besides spend time in the garage, but last weekend we had success!!
Defeated the rust weld with an acetylene torch and hydraulic puller.
In the process I killed the bearing on the sprocket carrier. No big deal, they're getting replaced anyway.

Do you know the children's book If you Give A Mouse A Cookie? Well this project should be called If You Give A VFR A Carb Rebuild. It's been like... just one more thing... and, then while I'm doing that thing I may as well do this too... and so on.
Made some good progress today. Finished cleaning the rear hub parts, knocked out the bearings and cleaned the swingarm and linkage. I even pulled the shock to adjust the length to 352mm as I saw recommended somewhere on this site. Got the linkage cleaned, lubed and reassembled. Now just waiting for the bearings.
Felt good to be in reassembly phase.

Super HOT Independence Day weekend here in southeast PA. Garage was unpleasant....

    PXL_20240706_210652335.jpg

Over the past week I managed to find some time to paint the (hopefully) last parts needing paint

    PXL_20240705_160326568.jpg

And I could not stand the look of the wheel weights
    Before:

    Nope, can't do it
    After :

    That's much better :)

This weekend I got the new bearings fitted in the hub and sprocket carrier, and got the hub reassembled.
Fitted the rear brake system after doing a full rebuild a couple months ago. Now to fill and bleed....

Lots of little things today. Fill/bleed rear brake, rear subframe, wire harness, reinstall rad and fill the cooling system.
I wanted to mount the rear wheel just to remind me of how good it looks. Getting closer! I want to fire it up! Just need to get the exhaust on.

i guess alot of ppl would send the scratched and uneven rear disc to the rubbish bin before remounting something showing that much wear.
