Ha I bet they prefer trades. Why don't they take their ass to the DMV and request a copy of the title??

The fact that there's a tag on the bike *might* help in the process. Especially if it's from the same state you wish to get the new title. I bought two bikes last year without titles. I finally got the paperwork done to move forward with new titles and registration. Just need to go do it now. Florida changed their laws on this matter just last year making it harder, due to all the scum bags trying to run scams.

Both bikes I bought were worth the extra work involved in doing this.

Of course I had to hear from two different persons at the tag office "I wouldn't have bought them without titles."

I won't identify them by gender - you can draw your own conclusions...;)

Regardless of the PITA paperwork.....I look at stuff like that as an adventure and a challenge!!! :D

Too much for no title in my book.

I made this comment on a different thread.

If you have another bike - same year/model/color, that IS legally registered....what's to keep you from using that tag on this untitled bike whenever you want to take her out. You'd just have to be careful not to get pulled over.

But if you did get pulled over.....would a cop actually check the VIN on the registration against the one on the bike? Chances are no. Even if (God forbid) you got into an an accident......I bet no one would double check the VINs.....

Not condoning anyone do something like this....nor am I suggesting it. Just putting it out there for a "push come to shove" scenario.....

Gotta keep in mind....the asking price is not always what you'd pay.

Show up with a stack of hundreds.......count out some. Stop. Ask the seller "What will you let her go for today?" If it's too high for you it's too high. But maybe he's ready to see it go bye-bye and that cash in hand.....has a way of helping the process.

You might get it for $1,000, even......maybe even less......who knows......

If it was a 750, maybe.

You buy it (for less than $1500) and wait for the junkiest, titled VF500F to come along. Spend a weekend swapping (while resisting the urge to do a full resto!!).

Shit... I have 2 titled frames hanging in the parts garage.

The fact that it's not a VF750F is more appealing to me. But you probably meant VFR.

So you'd take it just for the parts value?

And as far as switching tags.. maybe for around the block no way out in traffic.

I live in a very small town. It's funny that when people complain on Nextdoor about cops never being around when you need them someone always replies with "There are only two patrol units active at any given time. They can't be everywhere all the time."

So most would look at that as a bad thing.

Me......I'm like hell if I fudge a little on the speed.......odds are in my favor I won't get caught!

You just can't be an idiot.

I can't remember the last time I was ticketed for something.

    I don't even get pulled over......(shrug).....

Risk management - gonna be different for everyone......

As soon as we got my wife a new car, I drove hers and got pulled over in front of my own home because I didn't have 2 plates on the vehicle.

She drove for Years without being pulled over and I get a ticket the day I get it.

I don't like the odds lol
It could be up to the officers mood or boredom level

Funny, I always end up looking for freeze damage on the right lower frame now. Not that this one is particularly egregious, but that's why the paint is missing on it.

Is that rust bubbling up the paint on top of the tank on the 4th pic?

    Or just reflections...

The bike has obviously sat outside, but I think it's mostly just filthy. The plastic solo cowl looks like the tank.

If it was that bad, the lower seams of the tank would probably look really ugly.
