When you're refurbishing an older motorcycle have you ever found a set of cush-drive rubber inserts that no longer had the proper size to prevent driveline lash? I remember dealing with this on my GSF-400, the original rubber inserts were loose-fitting inside the rear wheel. When I first purchased it I'd noticed that the bike had a lot of driveline lash. Ordered replacements and they were obviously older stock (possibly even NOS) and as a result had the same fit. In the end I got a technique/hack from an owner of an older Kawasaki bike that had the same problem. Kawasaki EX-250 owners would cut pieces of thin plastic and shim them into the cush drive to make up for the ill-fitting rubber inserts.

My VF/VFRs and the CB-1 have a style that seem to be pretty resilient, but I've never got a set of new Honda OEM rubbers that seemed too small to start with. The rubbers in my Hawk hub are a slightly different style they were old, hard and small. The new ones fit perfect.

I've had the link between two two heavy parts break, but it doesn't seem to affect anything. I boil them, the silicone them to mmke them like new.

Mirrors, battery and bring the tires down to their pressures.

I have some suspension upgrades in stages to go and a different exhaust system, but it needed to come off the lift and get ridden a couple times.

Looks spiffy...even in red! Looking forward to see what you do to the suspension. I hunted and pecked for a long time to get what was right for me. RaceTech site gives spring rates that are way off!

Yeah I know what you think about red... this thing was a custom blend using the 94 - 97 VFR red as a start and it absolutely pops in the sun with some extra gold flake.

The change to the darker grey really gets the job done. It looks lovely.

Rode it to work today. Ran great, tires feel good. It's been a few seasons since I've ridden it. It had needed tires for a while and I always shuffled another project in front of it.

Get the tires scrubbed in a bit while I tinker on the front end. I kept the front stock when I built it to keep the front end lower and maybe more complaint for the wife, but after I stiffen it up with some new-to-this-bike springs I'll slide the forks up a bit to compensate. Adjustable caps and springs first and then Emulators and a rear shock in Round 2. I've got an extra set of damper rods I can pre-drill to make the job pretty fast on the lift.

It's fucking LOUD on full song. Luckily it can be short-shifted to stay fairly reasonable.

That is killer looking!! Top notch dude. That engine is a sweet mix of gear driven in-line 4ness!

OK... I have been working on a little side project for the CB-1.

I got some Beet Japan side covers in a lot of parts I bought from a HawkGTForum member. In the box was set of front frame covers too. So I bought another set of engine mounts to finish all three the same color knowing that I probably wouldn't be able to match the factory color.

I decided to cut some ports out of the frame covers to go along with the Beet covers, and cut / form some aluminum mesh to go behind like a VF1000R side cover.

Here's the color in front of the original pieces:

    Paint and mesh installed:

I winterized the Hawk and got the CB-1 up on the lift to install: Pretty happy with it.

It is an interesting and alternate look. The quality of your work looks very high!

From the rider's standpoint, it is a bit warm, so maybe this will help!

Pretty damn close to the stock fork slider color.
