Yeah, they cleaned up nice. They have some marks from being banged around in a box before I got them, but they will look right at home on this stage of the build.

Footpegs were pretty worn with oval-ed out pin holes, and they sagged pretty good.

    PXL_20230418_013003157.jpg

These pegs are pretty unique and are not the same as the CBR unfortunately. The CBR pegs are too wide to fit in the footpeg brackets. I also tried some 86 VFR pegs, but too wide as well. Not insurmountable with some machining, but I though I'd try something first and save some work.

So I bored out the pin holes and sleeved them.

    PXL_20230419_131215755.jpg

I roughed everything up and pressed them in with some JB Weld and left them under pressure overnight. The spring still fits around the pressed thru collar shaft, I wanted to have as much collar on the pin as possible.

    PXL_20230419_131336220.jpg

Should work out great and the angle is now perfect (if not slightly up) instead of sagging. And now the pin is running thru steel, not aluminum. Should last a long time.

I've had these done for a little while. Some restored bits in anticipation of going back together.

    PXL_20230614_131438184.jpg

I had another upper triple that I restored. Came out nice. And that's a 97 lower triple that is a little sleeker than the 92. I had it so I thought I might as well have everything ready to just swap over the whole front end.

    PXL_20230614_131446328.jpg

Most of the items I had sprayed some matte clear coat on, except for the triple and handlebars, those were gloss. I was over helping the neighbor bleed some brakes (again), and he handed me an activated can of 2K clear. So I came home and shot some of the high wear pieces, like the lift handle, footpeg brackets, shift lever, brake pedal and some levers for another RC24 project. Started sputtering when I was finishing the exhaust hanger bracket I made. (not pictured).

Most everything is done for this bike for the first stage of it's rebuild. Fresh set of 1997 VFR forks need oil and preload spacers, already have the RT springs. Brakes are all rebuilt. Need to decide which wheels I will use at first. I have another 8 spoke and a 97 front wheel, but they need to be prepped and painted. I may just polish up the original wheels and run some solid rotors that I already have re-finished.

Parts are looking good my friend! I finally got my Vapor Hone to kick into gear. Cleaned up my 93 CBR600 foot sets. Came out real nice in my book.

Those things are killer. Such a nice factory finish when they come out. If you 2K matte clear they would look like that forever.

Nice thing about a matte clear is that it softens it just a bit and recreates the stock finish. And the 2K matte clear is VERY resilient.

Finally a little more progress. Pulled the front end apart last night.

    PXL_20230720_030045016.jpg
Everything came apart very nicely. Front axle slid out easily and was clean and freshly greased. All bolts felt properly torqued, nothing was rounded or stripped.

Tapered bearings had been installed at some point. Fairly recently by the look of it, probably with the last set of tires?

    PXL_20230720_030055354.jpg

Forks are toast from sitting exposed to the elements. I have a perfect set of 97 forks ready to go and restored 97 triples ready for new bearings.

Restored triples (97 lower) installed with new tapered bearings. Restored bars on 97 forks with RT springs. Handle switches are pretty weathered, but they will have to do for now.

Front wheel had what looked and felt like new bearings and seals, likely also when the steering bearings were done.

I replaced the red rocker on the right switch assy. Much better.

    PXL_20230817_232244425.jpg

    Rebuilt calipers installed.

    PXL_20230817_232255725.jpg

Right side foot controls assembled and installed. Rear wheel has been cleaned, polished/waxed and a tire suitable for some test rides mounted and balanced.

    PXL_20230817_232325943.jpg

Left foot controls installed, waiting for some shift rubbers to arrive. Rear rebuilt caliper and braided line installed.

    PXL_20230817_233350198.jpg

Brake line "stay" is temp until I can get decades of chain grime off of the guard. This bike was caked and filthy. That is actually the chain that was on the bike. It and the sprockets appear to be nearly new, which was a nice $urpri$e. Brake pads FR and RR were also essentially new, and not contaminated.

Bleed the hydraulics and start working on the bodywork.

looks A1, what about the original regulator? Are you gona pop for a mosfet one? or your gona flip this Gen3.

Thanks dewd. This one I am keeping. It was very complete and reasonably maintained, just stored poorly for a while in the hands of the last owner. I'll be able to enjoy a pretty nice RC36-I for a relatively little investment.

The original R/R unit still works, but it is melty. I've got newer version with cooling fins from a 97 until I get connectors for the FH0220 I sourced from a CBR500.

Bled the brakes and clutch yesterday morning, so now to definitely move on to bodywork.

Parts swaps from other models are things that we all do at some point. Curious if you guys tell the buyer or give them a log of the work/maint done when you sell.

    "sell"? :)

If anything needs to be disclosed or discussed, it would be. In great detail. I don't think anybody buying a bike from me are going to feel uneasy about part swaps or mods. I don't really log mods, I know what's been done. I do log mileage/date of major maintenance items on my shop computer. I do save original important parts and always try and buy another part to mod if it's possible.

    X-rings. https://products.fst.com/eu/en/categories/static-seals/x-rings

Besides offering double up on sealing lips compared to O-rings they dont tend to roll under axial movement and for radially sealing O-rings the sealing surface is right where the tooling imperfections are.
