This is a great point. Make sure you didn't cap the main vent line for the carbs. It looks like it should go somewhere, but it just points down on the non-California bikes.

Okay so after the most hectic 3 weeks I've finally had time to go through and clean out the carbs again it starts up way better but still dies out once it hits 3000 rpm. I was going to go through and tune all the carbs but problem is one of the ports for the vacuum line is broken off so I can't hook up the guages. What do I do in that sense? Also sounds like it's not getting enough gas is there anything I can do to get more flow into the carbs I'm going to really clean out the petcock but last time I looked at it it was cleaned all out

the bike had a fuel pump when new, and you need to find and plumb one in, NOT gravity feed. remove the airbox top and check that each vacuum slide rises with throttle movement with engine running. if you removed them for cleaning, chances are good that diaphragms were not properly seated in their grooves under the cap, ez to screwup

do you have an air compressor ?

Yes I have an air compressor, I promise it is gravity fed I don't mean to sound like an asshole lol sorry but it is gravity fed it goes straight to the carbs no pump in between them

check slides by blasting air into the oval-shaped hole on carb. if one or more slide fails to rise the bike wont run right.

as fuel level in tank drops, flow decreases and carbs will start running dry without a pump

Okay so every time I adjust the idle screw down it dies after 2500 rpms should I increase the gas or decrease it, I don't know if that makes sense or not obviously decrease but I mean should I open the gap in the carb more or less

What "gap"? Either you have the carbs synched or not. The idle adjustment screw is moving all 4 butterfly plates (and changing the "gap"), and should be able to adjust down to the proper idle speed. You have assembled something wrong or have an intake/vacuum leak, or both.

Okay when you do a rough sync cause I can't do the vacuum sync you adjust carb 4 with the idle set screw am I not right on that one? I didn't see any other way to adjust it besides that, that's always what I've been told and seen

The carb with the idle adjust is your base, correct. What is your bench synch method?

Yeah you go 4 2 3 1 for sync right basically I'm just using feeler guages and setting them all to the same one
