    Hey all--

I have a 1997 VFR750 and picked up a used Staintune exhaust in very good condition. Unfortunately, the exhaust did not come with any hardware or instructions. Hooking it up to the header pipe and the footrest appear pretty straightforward, but what about the attached bracket toward the rear of the muffler? Anyone know what I could use for that?

    TIA

The rear Staintune bracket on my 95 is just some flat stainless bent to clear the body work and angled to meet the muffler. It's fairly crude and I worked it some to better clear the rear cowl and match the muffler angle. It uses the unused threaded boss in the subframe.

Thanks, Captain. Anyone know where I might find this bracket?

Just get some flat mild steel and make one. After bending and shaping, give it some black paint. The stainless was pretty damn hard to manipulate it where I wanted it. And I still ended up painting it black recently to hide it.

You might even find something very close in length and holes that just needs some bending at a hardware or home improvement store.

    Captain,
Would aluminum work? It's pretty easy to bend & most home improvement stores have it?

I don't see why not, as long as it is somewhat thick and not over-worked to get the right shape. It has to bend in a bit to miss the bodywork and then back out and a slight twist to match the muffler. I replicated one for Holden out of some stainless that I had and it was kind of a bitch.

There's a mount at the passenger peg too, so it's not bearing the whole load, but it might have to deal with some vibration.

Thanks for the great work, Captain. Did you make that license plate bracket?

    You're welcome and thank you!

Nah, it's a Competition Werkes unit. It came on my bike. It requires cutting the fender / inner fender unit. Somebody did an ok job, but I recently had the bike apart and I cleaned up their work. I got an extra stock fender to slim down a bit, but it was so nice and had the correct year sticker for the bike I couldn't bring myself to cut on it. So I got yet another one recently to trim. I will probably post the modified fender and Werkes unit for sale when I'm done. I saw one in a VFR parts lot eBay listing, if I come across it again I'll post the link.

Found it. Not a bad deal for a bunch of bolts and hardware too. I almost bought this.
